I have a very good approach to make a Z28 on budget which I may test in a few years
![]() It goes like this: 1- Buy a new or slightly used Camaro 1LE that shares the same platform, chassis, wheels, tire sizes etc.. Cost is about $29-30 K 2- Get the Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve (DSSV) damper kit from GM which costs about $3600 3- Get the Z28 spoiler, underbody panels and front spoiler (not sure about the cost but it's GM so shouldn't be much) 4- Get a Long tube header and tune which adds about 40-50 whp and make it close to the LS7 power levels- Costs about $1200 5- R compound tires, ST43 brakes and custom ducting 6- baffled oil pan/plate that's it still less than $40k (compared to $70k Z28) that can keep up with big dogs

![]() I will closely watch their process and may follow the same route in the future if they succeed .. being in FL, your chances are you will find one if you search more aggressively, I just love the power of the V8 and the fact not to deal with any power adder mods and mainly focus on handling mods which won't void the warranty

So then why is beating a Cayman of importance? Everyone else is out to have fun at their driving experience level and that has a much bigger impact on track lap times than the car.

Yes, I was thinking this too. The Z28 is in no doubt very interesting and is hanging with the top dogs. All the youtube vids of the new Z28 against various cars is very entertaining and impressive ..but I thought to myself..what if you put those same tires on the other cars it's going up against (GTR, Turbo 911, etc)? It sounds like a lot of those impressive times are due to its' close-to-R-spec tires.

Because I like that car, cannot afford it and the 86 is a poormans substitute.
I never said it was important. I just wanted to compare the 86 to one of my dream cars.

What about oil? Does the 1LE have dry sump like the Z28? I think the LS3 has oil starvation issues doesn't it? ..or is it a different engine in the 1LE? Crazy how the Z28 reportedly handles better and is much better balanced at the track than the Stingray though. I wonder if the upcoming Stingray Z06 will be below or better than the Camaro Z28 in terms of handling, or if it will have the same characteristics like the base models. Chevy GM sure is progressing like never before ...leaving out of date Mustangs and super heavy Dodges in the dust.
