You can't just compare lap times, unless you're actually running comparable times yourself. It's why you see 458's get totaled all the time. The owners think that because they can afford it, they have the talent to drive it. |

I beg to differ. Because if it was me or anyone else on this board that wasn't a pro like Randy Pobst, then my/our times per car would be much less comparable, relevant and inconsistent, in the equal amount of driving effort put into each car during testing. He's their consistent driver to get approx baseline times per car.
But yes, of course I see what you're saying. But, what's wrong with a little comparing of numbers, data and such? What's wrong with a little bench and keyboard racing? Lol. It's fun to discuss it and research it. It's the reason why there are videos, magazines, articles, websites and internet forums. We can't be at the track 24/7 (like right this second). And we aren't all seasoned track heads with unlimited money for weekly track sessions and track car consumables. Is it wrong to post track times, information about cars and stuff? If so, this forum wouldn't exist.

E.g. your power/weight figures don't factor in AUC at all. For example, a E36 M3 and a S2000 have similar P/W, but the M3 will walk away in a drag race. Really, what will help you decide best, are the intangibles. Sit in a Porsche being driven hard, and sit in a BRZ being driven hard. The invite is still open. And yes, I literally am at the track (well technically a hotel next to the track)... lol |

Yes..of course.
I never claimed my numbers were accurate or even officially legitimate. They were quick, rough, "casual" and ghetto..just to see a very rough approximation. Yes, there are thousands of other things that come into play I did not and can Not factor in, that will surely count more and only be felt in the real world R&T that data and numbers do not tell. The M3 or Porsche...yes, there are countless things that will make them advantageous (or disadvantageous) that data or numbers do not provide...chassis stiffness or flex, weight balance, effective powerband, torque, high speed stability, turn in/mid/exit characteristics, driver preference, and so on and so on. A certain car may be faster arnd a track..but that doesn't mean it's the best and most desirable to each driver. It's very subjective too. Ex: Some sort of new hot sht AMG merc sedan might be 10secs faster than my 86...but I'd still rather drive the 86 than that fatty around a track. Again...my numbers were just to see a rough approximation on an internet forum. I wasn't trying to write a professional magazine article, marketing or advertising a new part, making precise data points for a presentation nor providing critical information ...lol.

Sansei CSG Mike is just trying to show you the path, young grasshoppah. Take him up on his most generous offer and go for a ride, I guarantee you will stop thinking about power to weight ratio, whatever you decide to buy (or dream about). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Curious to know how many track days the OP has done in the BRZ or any other car?

Early '90s to early '00s, I've driven friends' and family's practice and sprint shift karts many times on norcal tracks and also socal (they weren't my cars, I just tag along for road trips). Also have driven my old sw20, crx si, del sol dohc, friend's 240sx nissans, miatas and other hondas and other lent cars (for fun trips, at a hobby level) pre 2000s. I've also driven race bikes at the track a couple times. I have more than a few friends that have been professionally competing in CART type things and also motorcycle racing around the nation for more than a decade. Brz? None yet..but I don't see how it would be much different than the nissans and miatas I've driven in the past.
