It would be interesting to know how the beam fits into how the (first?) crumple zone works on twins.

Dumb.

Want to cut 15lbs? Get a gym membership. Just hope you never get into a serious accident...even a lower speed accident will do more damage.

Remember that this started out as a discussion about a dedicated track-car.

Don't be so hard on yourself.

There are countless programs available that can help you at your own speed...

or stick to the cosmetic treads if the race/track ones are overwhelming.

Unless you have done everything else possible to make yourself and your car faster, removing these bars even on a track only car, is not the best idea. It will turn a light hit into a tire wall into a financially disgusting incident. Having been a Race Director and running many many races for NASA, I've seen folks crying after tagging the tire walls because of the extra damage that is incurred by removing such bars/beams.

Also as someone noted, make sure to have some bars to prevent the motor from coming up through the firewall and into your lap.

I ended up making an aluminum front beam. After trimming my factory beam for a turbo kit I just felt it was too compromised to be any good. Making a new one out of square aluminium tubing saved weight and while I don't think it's as safe as an oem piece it's certainly better than the oem piece that was trimmed. It's also better than no beam and should handle a moderate hit at the track without destroying the radiator.

I wouldn't recommend ever removing entirely. Lot's of damage with minor impacts and I speak from experience. Make one out of aluminum like I did if you want to save some weight.

I have made this bar from 44.5mm CDS Cage tubing. It spreads the load over the original mounting holes, but is mounted higher up to allow a bigger Intercooler.
I'm currently looking for an insurance company here in the UK who will be happy to insure my car with this fitted.

With the original foam fitted...

Bumper cover on..

What do you think??

Way better looking setup than a few other front bumper bars on here.
