Muffler delete getting rear bumper really hot

I Took my muffler off tonight to hear what it sounds like and drove it around the block. I when I got back I noticed that the rear plastic of the bumper was very hot for obvious reasons. if I leave it off for a day will the heat hurt the plastic?

There was another thread about this somewhere with pictures.

Long story short, it most certainly can ruin your bumper.

This issue has been talked about plenty of times in here. To answer your question, most likely it will. There's a video of a guy doing what you did, and melted his entire bumper off between minutes. Get a track pipe from nameless performance, berk technology, or mach V dan..

$150 tops.

Yeah, there were pictures of a guy who did the same thing at a track and it melted the whole left rear/side of the bumper. Get a tailpipe or put the muffler back on. Not warranty if melted...........search for a post entitled 'don't try this'.

Found it! Here's some video of the aftermath...

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7IgBEyxjKc&feature=relmfu"]video of the aftermath.[/ame]

Should add this was apparently only after a couple minutes on the track. You can see the taillight, trunk lid, and probably more things were damaged as well.

As everyone has said, buy a delete pipe or have one made. I pulled the muffler off my NB miata once. Drove maybe 5 miles. When I got home I was like "wtf?" My miata badge was falling off, hanging on barely. So I went to grab it and it was burning hot! Touched the bumper and it was too. Glad I noticed. I was planning on leaving the muffler off until I got to an exhaust shop.

My Nameless Performance muffler delete pipe was only $100 and I've had no issues with the bumper getting too hot. Love the sound (not as loud as I expected) and weight reduction of the muffler delete pipe.

When you see that the stock exhaust path aims up back into the rear bumper section without a muffler, what did you expect? it's not a warm breeze coming out from that pipe. It's 100-150 centigrade and mufflers can grill a steak after a 15 minute commute.

I've seen all sorts of nasty rear ends even with a pipe that goes past the rear bumper. Soot from running rich, 5" tips that still melt the bumper, yellow/browning of white bumpers on hella sick straight piped s13/14, DIY cut outs of rear bumper section, rust stains from bottoming out the hellaflush rides.

Do yourself a favour and buy a real muffler delete pipe.

i just put in a spacer, rear bumper doesnt get hot at all but you can still hear the car, did a 2 hour run through the hills a few weeks ago, nothing melted, nothing was even hot

Sorry if this is stupid, but what do you mean by spacer?

removed both bolts to the muffler, take out the gasket, put 5 washers between the muffler and catback, tighten down bolts

allows some air to escape the exhaust system, in reality its just a really big exhaust leak lol... im still up in the air on what exhaust i want but needed some exhaust sound in my life so that is my temp fix till i decide

personally i like the way it sounds, i may just buy the single exit w/ exhaust tip for $150, it does drone though because the noise comes out behind the bumper but its not as loud as my last car so i dont really mind
