Jeff
let me reiterate what we've reasonably concluded based on the previous pictures posted.

brz: HID with manual adjustment (this is 100% confirmed by owners manual)
frs: halogen without manual adjustment
EDM gt86: HID without manual adjustment; possibly includes auto adjustment.

we have not confirmed if the jdm HID and non-HID specs 86 will have a headlight adjustment or not.

EU generally requires auto leveling. The US doesn't require any leveling but Subaru has done the manual level adjustment for years.

For those of you going that route, good luck. Hopefully, it all comes in a neat tidy package that can be bolted on without issues. Having been around the block with HID upgrade in the past, went from D2R HID's to D2S HID's on my '05 G35 coupe, I know it can be expensive and difficult.
That's why I decide to get BRZ lol
I really like HID but don't like the retrofit price tag and the fact if it gets damaged it is cost out of your pocket, not insured

Sorry, I should have clarified that my post only applied to European lights, nothing else.

I converted to Lhd converted jdm type r halogen headlights for my ep3 and the original owner paid over 700$ just for the jdm headlights. I purchased it used for 350 after he converted them to left hand drive reflectors. He had to open em up and after a good year the seal just wasn't as good and yellowed on the inside. The hid lhd from Europe was about 1200$.

Depo ended up making Lhd replicas that were tons cheaper and the ep people had great experience with them.

I'm not convinced that the beam pattern and direction of the headlights for RH vs. LH drive will be an issue, since there is no halogen reflectors in the housing. Any difference in aiming should be able to be resolved by re-aiming the headlights, no?

Even in projectors there are beam patterns. My upgrade was to the facelift ep3 projector headlights. They have different cut offs

Rhd pattern is like this \___ \___
Basically you have a flat cutoff line the spreads to the left. Oncoming traffic would be blinded

Lhd pattern opens up to the right like so
__/ __/

Correct, the beam pattern dips on the opposite side for RHD vs. LHD. Halogen or not, the beam pattern is still different either way, and it is determined by the cutoff shield in the projector.

Ok, so if the differences in beam pattern are dictated by the cut-off sheild, not the projector itself, modifying or replacing the cut-off sheild, and properly aiming the headlamps would result in beam patterns that won't blind oncoming traffic?
