Importing JDM86 headlights

how much do you guys think it will cost to import the HID headlights?

Please use your experience with other cars to base your estimates

Used EDM and JDM HID headlights for my bugeye still go for $800, 10 years later. Brand new I'd say you're looking at at least twice that.

Someone from Europe, Australia or Japan is bound to have a group buy deal on 86 headlights. Just wait for it! :happy0180:

you'll want the european spec HID lights so that you won't blind oncoming traffic.

i'm stationed in the uk right now and have asked for a price but no parts are in the system yet but as soon as they are i'll see how much they will run as i'm wanting to change mine out when i get it. lol

I would guess that even in a group buy setting you're looking at over $1k for a set. Factory HID isn't cheap!

Heh, all the JDM imports in Canada need to have Canadian spec lights installed to pass their VI.

Oncoming drivers will want to murder you, btw...

We in North America will need the European GT86 headlights

Ranatsu 04-25-2012 04:32 PM

might as well just wait for someone to wrap a BRZ around a tree and try to get the headlights.

I would think you'd wouldn't want the EU spec lights. IIRC, EU lights all have auto leveling HID feature by law. So I would think that adding that equipment/feature to a car that didn't come with it would be more difficult than just simply bolting on lights that don't have the auto leveling feature. Unless I'm wrong and the auto leveling feature isa simple bolt on in it of itself? Anyone have any more detailed info on this?

EDM is the only place you can get the Toyota with HIDs in LHD. RHD HIDs will be aimed wrong.

the brz manual indicates that the car has a manual headlight leveling adjuster to the left of the steering wheel.

i'd imagine that the 86/frs has something similar, however, i cannot confirm unless someone has a picture of the adjuster on the frs or it's shown on the frs manual.

ayau 04-25-2012 04:52 PM

i can confirm that the frs has the same brz light level adjustment as shown in the pic below. do you think that the european spec will have an auto adjustment instead of a manual because of european laws?
