The AJR BRZ was driven by one of the fastest drivers you can find. Rob is an absolute animal on track.

@rice_classic How would you compare Kumho V710s to Toyo RRs? The reason I am asking because Kumho V710s have the perfect size 245/40/17 which doesn't change the overall diameter and Toyo RRs only come in 255/40/17 .. I had some rubbing issues at ORP and ended up raising the car about .5" and that was with the 235/40/17 tires so I figured adding another .5" by going with 255s might bring back the issue that I had once

I don't have personal experience with the Kumhos. Heard good things but no personal experience.

If available in your size, you may want to consider shaved RA1's (4/32nds). Those things last forever and provide good grip.

The Hankook Z214-C51 might also be an excellent choice. They wear very well and can handle the high temps and abuse. I know one guy who won't run anything else on his Porsche 968 race car.

I've looked at the Z214s and it looks those might be a really good alternative thanks again

Just ordered Z214 C51s in 245/40/17 with the heat cycling service, I can't wait to test them on the track

I've been eyeing up the z214 also, and have a set of 04 sti bbs kicking around without tires.

Thoughts on 225/45/17 in the c71 or c51 for 20 minute session track days and autox?

Car is kraftwerks, standard pulley, stock fueling etc. Kwv3, eibach sways, ap sprint, cl rc5+ pads.

Also picking up some 80% or so 245/40/17 bf rivals tomorrow that could be thrown on, to barely fit.

I have a pyrometer and a durometer. I'll raks some temps in the hot pits next track day for you.

I personally wouldn't consider anything smaller than 235s with your power levels and mods but to each his own

I generally feel the same, but my 8" rpf1 have 245 pss mounted. And the bbs were the result of a chain of trades and sales that have basically made them free.

Was thinking ive been getting along well enoufh on 245 pss and 255 z2 that the 225 slicks should still be an upgrade, and ideally sizes to those wheels

I run 710's in 245/40 on 17x9 wheels. They typically run $100 per tire cheaper than Hoosiers, are a pound or two heavier but have a greater load rating. ( 2013 GT 500 had a R6 blowout this weekend!)

I was on track day #7 with this set and ran a personal best (1:22:56) at Roebling Road despite it being the middle of August.

To put this into perspective, below are the results from the event that Jon Miller set the track record for TTD back in April or May of 2013. I think he was running A6's in 225/45. My time on 710's would have been second fastest TTD that weekend just in front of Jon Kozlow. The Khumo's may not have the ultimate grip that Hoosiers provide but they handle heat well and have very good longevity compared to others. The Toyo RR is new and I have no experience with them personally or second hand.

C51 for road course, C71's for Autux (maybe even C91s).

If you don't make loads of tire temp, or its a really cool day, then you could run the C71's on a road course. However I don't see any situation where the C51's will work for Autox. They aren't very grippy below 180F. The C51's really like being hot and have really stiff sidewalls so less camber is needed. In fact that's always the trade-off. Autox needs a tire that's sticky RIGHT NOW. It's why Hoosier has an R7 and an A7, why Hankook has a C51 and a C71/91.

Hankooks really piss off tire changers though because the sidewalls are so stiff they really resist going on/coming off the wheel. Don't tell your tire changer this before the work gets done.
