Nothing in the manual states anything like that, I just get a feel for the engine and it seems like it wants me to shift already at around 2K, so I do.

I think you need to open it up a bit and see how it feels. From my experience (at 3800 miles now) the shifter and synchros broke in so the shifts feel better, but the engine responds pretty much the same as the day I bought it. I think it's a characteristic of the high-revving boxer engine. If I'm driving in 2nd at 20 mph around 2700 rpm it does feel like it wants me to shift, but if you're accelerating you want to push past that into 3k-4k rpms at least until you shift. In higher gears cruising speed is in the 3k-4k rpm range. The engine has a tendency to knock below 2k rpms (IRRC).

I dont follow the shift indicator, speeds are too low for those gears and could cause knocking and unrewarding driving experience. I usually shift at 3-4k

Hi,
Bet you are happy to be back from vacation to play with your new car! So you are talking about the shift indicator when you enable the display of the current gear indicator? That will be a recommendation for fuel economy that is triggered on sensor/vacuum levels. It is adaptive so if you are driving harder you will see different shift points. Just try and keep it under the recommended max rpm and vary your speed/driving methods until 1k and you will be fine. 2500 miles already here ![]() -Will

Also, I think "when the car wants to" is pretty subjective. Are you basing that on the engine noise and how it's responding to the throttle? I find it doesn't want to hang out in 1st or 2nd gear, as this isn't a Corvette that can do 60 mph in 1st. But pushing it into 3k-4k rpms during the breakin in 1st or 2nd isn't going to hurt anything. |

Around 15mph per gear, is what I'm doing if I remember right. Keep in mind the sound tube makes the interior sound louder than it really is.

It feels more more precise and better than it was yesterday. I've set the indicator at 3k just in case and the car feels great. Just tested it out by driving around on a freeway and it was reliving.

I have a shift light and indicator for 3.5k. It works really well when I try not to break past 4k limit. I'm at about 1500 miles in and shifting is not as rough as before and everything is way slicker.

Note that you have to do this when your car is NOT MOVING...otherwise, the shift light indicator won't show up. Well, it makes common sense to do this when you're NOT driving...but I tend to mess around with the buttons in my car while I drive, haha. |

So how do you actually turn it on? The shift indicator and it shows you what gear you're currently in?
I couldn't understand what the manual says about it...
