I will quote several customers with many much higher priced cars (as in, 80+k used) and say that you are unlikely to find anything with the p/w ratio, and handling to match that comes from an OEM...even with the cash thrown in it.

A corvette has more power, but is heavy, and worse yet--a corvette . Weight and transient response is also the weakness of the GTR or a BMW M. Any 4 door evo/wrx also has the heft and the more sluggish AWD.

A lotus is close, but is twitchy and incredibly expensive even with a minor issue at the track.

Porsche will run you 60k+ and won't be as quick, maintenance will be much more expensive.

Lots of folks have proven that a supercharged 86 can hold up with even serious track use. Aeros are good for 120+ mph with stock bodywork. Only when you start using real slicks and can justify a dry sump, does the higher end start to make sense. Even those aren't always up to the task...for those there's the gt3. Bet anything it'll cost more than an 86 fully built with a dry sump and will cost more / lap

boost comes on quicker and is more stable, effectively moves the power band to the left and holds to redline still.

I would not have installed a 2.5" exhaust 4 months ago when I thought I would put a turbo in after the warranty period!

Yup, that and i think my driving style of constly beating the fuck out of it weaked things faster.

Cant wait to come back in two months or so to chase the 700 + whom ever says he has had enough power is lying as i got used to my high boost map in a month or so

I wouldn't have bothered with remote tuning. Between remote tuners like Visconti and the ECUtek tuners that are available where I am not being all that great I blew close to $6 grand and was still having issues with the tune.
Finally bit the bullet and bought the Motec M150, which was about $2k less than what I'd spent on ECUtek to date. Oh well, live and learn.

Sorry to hear that. We have worked with customers all over the world on Speed Density tunes that work on just about any forced induction application. To bad we were not around for that.

Haha cheers mate, but after two terrible experiences with Venders on here (who are no longer here because I wasn't the only one receiving suspect service from them) I decided on a local tuner. At least I could turn up at their office if something wasn't going right and they weren't responding to emails/phone calls was the way to go.

Unfortunately I then struggled with local ECUtek tuners who bought the software to corner the market and then didn't really understand how to use it (or listened to requests/input I had). There's better options here now, but I'm just too untrusting of that platform after everything.

The motec opens up available tuners and I can see what's going on myself pretty easily. After all my issues I actually invested in some tuning courses from High Performance Academy *Shameless Plug* so I have a much better understanding of what was going on as well. Being in Australia and having Motec on speed dial and a Motec specialist 10 minutes from my house helped sway me down that path as well.

But hey if ever you want a look over/provide input on my Motec map let me know ;-)

I have an AVO stage 1 with their BOV, breather tank, drop in filter and base tune. The front pipe is catless and the muffler is stock.
The car is driven hard and it's been on the track.
This set up is very anemic compared to almost all the builds here but it is what I imagined the car to be when it was still a concept.
No regrets.
Just get a good kit and tune.

I would have gone with a different shop and tuner, otherwise car is fully sorted out now by another shop and new tune - 2014 monogram MT with JR SC/oil cooler, Ohlins, AP Racing Sprint BBK, P&L + Invidia Q300, SPL LCA/camber, Crawford AOS, Koyo rad, Exedy Stage 2, OS Giken LSD, AEM Safety and P3 gauges, suspension reinforcements, shifter ball and springs, etc.

Wanted practical and comfortable daily that's capable on track. Considered GTR, 911, M3. Owned lotus elise for 4 years. Drove frs without mods for 7 months then took a plunge. No regrets.
