With e85 you don't need to retard much timing (hardly at all) for high IATs, so for that reason it works well in the track. Vented hood and other things won't help much here. In the early days miata folks even tried water jackets...didn't help enough to warrant it. Doesn't mean you can't run it. It will still make more torque down low and 200+ hp up top, but it won't be the 220-240 you'd see on the dyno. |

This! I love the whine from this kit
![]() Makes getting on the freeway so much more fun. I also won't disagree with anyone who says that there are better options out there for the track or big hp numbers. I would say that this kit feels most at home on the freeway. Rarely do I ever have to downshift to 5th anymore to pass anyone. I actually enjoyed downshifting before when I was stock, but it only helped a little bit at freeway speeds. I would say this kit definitely makes daily driving more effortless (less involved maybe?). It'll make you lazy in that you don't have to shift gears as much on the freeway, just keep it in 6th. Some may like that, some might not. I'm still not sure how I feel about it, but I do know that I love having the ability to easily pass now when I want to.

A 10% power boost is easily noticeable and feels good. 40% from down low is a huge deal in everyday driving. If that's worth it is up to you.

I'm sure there are more informed and experienced members in this forum that could better answer that question, but I'll give it a shot anyway. To the best of my knowledge some drawbacks of the twin screw are higher discharge temperatures, low peak power and you will be stranded if your belt breaks. The Rotrex centrifugal type kits I believe are said to have lower discharge temps and provide more power after about 5,000 rpm. The centrifugal type kits can provide more boost up high, which is where you typically should be when racing.
You should probably check out and perhaps try to revive the comparison thread: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=55705 That being said, the Innovate kit is still a lot fun at the track. I'm definitely using it as a crutch right now though. It, along with many other mods, immediately took 2 seconds off my avg lap time at Streets of Willow (SoW) ccw. After I got comfortable with the car I was able to shave off another 1.5 seconds. I know I said this kit is probably best suited for the freeway, but it's still a lot more fun than stock while at the track. The biggest difference it made for me personally at SoW was that I didn't have to downshift to 2nd anymore. SoW can be pretty difficult when stock if you're a bad driver like me, and a common problem that you might run into is that 2nd gear is not long enough and 3rd gear is not powerful enough. To get anywhere in the stock car you really gotta work for it. A stock 86 will force you to become a better driver, but if you suck like me and/or are an impatient/slow learner then the extra 40-50 hp from the twin screw will help mask your mistakes. Sure, you wont be diligently honing your driving skills but that's not to say that you wont continue to learn and improve regardless. I only do about 4-6 track events a year; so while I knew that I wanted to continue to go to the track, it wasn't my biggest priority when choosing a super charger.

I've got a good question for you guys. Has anyone that's intercooled taken off their blower and checked the laminova core?
Any oil buildup baked into the veins of the laminova? If not what catch can solution are you using and is it catching much oil vapors/mist/blowby??

Is anyone's fuel trims going crazy with the new tune? I get values in the teens and twentys on both short and long term during normal driving. Wot is 0.00.

If you still get the wonky fuel trims get in touch with your tuner, I'm assuming it's Bill. |
