NA power costs money. More money than anything. And reliability is poor when pushing limits - RPM kills engines slowly, even when working correctly.

What @CSG Mike said about building - pistons rods bearongs crank valve springs and cams: that's BASIC. It's nothing special. It's a starting point for a real engine... There's oh so much more where you are able to spend money to gain that 1,2 or 3hp... But in the end - if you're the breed of person that loves NA - it's all worth it. All of it. I've sat in a 270hp NA S2k... Fuck yes!

So I'm looking forward to NA tuners developing something useful, if not - I'll probably start designing some cams sooner or later.
All that takes is cams and a tune... but the motor is a ticking time bomb. We're talking low double digit race hours. It'll make 285 if you delete the cat too.

A 2.4 stroker F2xC will be good for ~50 hours and make ~300hp, but now you're looking at a 30k engine build.

On the other hand, a solid 25% of my motor's 130k+ in my s2k has been over 6000 RPMs.

How many videos have you seen where the vette driver won't go WOT until they're pointed straight *after* the corner? How many of these drivers smoothly transition from partial to full throttle?

These are skills that you most likely will not learn in a vette.
I learned how to drive in a 5.0 Mustang. You can learn with big power, long as you have good instructors and can listen.

Sorry, referring to you saying u put 130k on ur s2k motor. Id love to see that kind of longevity on the fa20 with a slight tune.

It's had various tunes over the years, but I'm back to stock + test pipe at the moment.

I played with higher redlines, but the engine showed exponentially higher wear at anything more than 100 rpm higher than stock. What really hurts is that the F22C continues to make more power as you increase redline, whereas the FA20 doesn't, making me want to run a higher redline....

Short of tearing it apart for inspection, or at least borescoping the block, how can you tell?

Used oil analysis had higher iron wear, which in the S2000, is the cylinder sidewall. Makes sense; this is where the most stress is at high RPMs.

The new 5.0 is a really forgiving platform... you can do all sorts of stupid stuff with the power and recover. The Mustang's wheelbase is long, giving it a large moment of yaw inertia, so it's much easier to recover than one of the twins. Also, you have enough power available to just spin both rear tires if needed, whereas the twins can't really do that.
