However, I do have another theory. Since I got the car I've been filling the tank at the employee-only gas station at my work because we get a 10-cent discount per gallon. The station does have 93 octane, but contains ethanol. I'm starting to wonder if the station just has lousy gas. I've filled up twice at a station in town that has ethanol-free 91 just because it's been more convenient recently to fill up there, and I've noticed my gas mileage has gone up by almost 3MPG with no changes in driving style. So, for the next few weeks I'm going to fill up there exclusively and see if that helps at all. Unfortunately I haven't found a conveniently-located station with ethanol-free 93.
I don't think your intake or the fuel quality would set this code. This code is caused by an electrical issue. The ECM is seeing over 3800 psi of rail pressure to set that code, and the high pressure pump is simply not capable of delivering that. It's either a faulty sensor, faulty circuit inside the ECM, or a damaged wire harness.

Actually, my theory on the fuel appeared to be correct. For over a month on the different gas I haven't had a single CEL thrown on the car.

So all is well.

Well they replaced the fuel pressure regulator and all is good for now

I don't think the gas quality had any thing to do with it.

I had a code P0191 months ago, dealer said it was a Fuel pressure sensor. They ordered it, took a month to arrive. I have been driving without issue for many month and it hasn't been changed yet. Stock car in all aspects. Not sure if I should let them change it now ???
