my father has a 1986 Celica GT-S convertible. That baby is his little pride and joy. A garage queen for sure. that was his first car he ever bought when he came to this country of Murica!

The last celica 2000-2005 was a great car. It lost a lot of its roots, it was strictly FWD, far gone from its RWD beginnings and devoid of all the AWD and turbo trims of the 90s. The 2zz engine was great, and it offered pretty good driving feel for a FWD. They were plenty fast for an n/a 4-banger; unfortunately it failed to defeat the Integra Type R.

The Celicas have all been pretty good cars. I don't think any generation has actually been particularly bad. Even when it came to the FWD ones all are pretty good durable Toyota coupes. The final 7th gen Celica is actually a very good car, things it has going for it is its light weight, its more practical liftback configuration, and if you got the GT-S version you got that lovely Yamaha 2ZZ-GE. As far as its sporting potential goes, up against the likes of a Acura RSX Type-S, the Celica generally isn't as serious about cornering. However because of how the stiff the RSX is...the Celica is easily more bearable in daily driving, the RSX can be pretty hateful there. I like all the Celicas more than any tC.

I never knew what the older Celicas looked like until recently and I have to say that I love that 70's fastback.

Meh, the way I see it is, if you want to go FF, you have a lot of choices aka all the Hondas, and picking a Celica over a Honda with a superior drivetrain is kind of dumb.

The last gen Celica is a great little car. Very good handling and extremely light compared to today's offerings.

In 2006 the Toyota Celica weighed 2,650 lbs. In 2013 the Scion Tc weighs 3,090 lbs. Most models would be envious of just a 621 lb weight gain after 43 years on the market. ![]() Maybe my numbers are a bit off but doesn't seem like such a travesty to me, sure the Tc got a ton of bloat over the 6th gen celica, what car actually maintained weight from 2003-2013? FT86 is a true sports car. Celicas are sport coupes; nice and fun, but nearly as sporty.
