Speaking as someone who had a preorder in on the brz (till the dealership tacked $2500 onto the agreed price) and hasn't set foot on a scion dealership, the brz looks positively boring in comparison to the 86. I think the frs might not be as crappy of a deal as it appears.

Also looks like the 86 was about 1.1 secs faster around the course.

Honestly, having watched that I'm a little upset to see the BRZ look that much more neutral than the 86. I expected it to be a little less so. Thank goodness for the aftermarket, because I won't want it to stay like that! I prefer a car that's a little more loose. I wonder if that setup might be more useful once power is added, though. If the 86/FR-S is that tail-happy with 200hp, how might it behave with close to 300hp?

Pretty much confirms the FRS is the car for me.

So what I get from this is the BRZ is more DD friendly and the FR-S is more track friendly? I'm not a track guy so the BRZ would still be the car for me out of the two.

FRS is more drift friendly. DD it won't make a difference. On track you'll have to do a lot more countersteering.

I would not read much in to this drivers are not machines good drivers in a car at this level can easily have more than a seconds worth of variation between laps. It defiantly looked to me like the driver was pushing the FR-s harder and that’s where most of the extra speed is from. The difference in the cars handling setup is only a few lbs in the springs only fairly experienced drivers are going to really utilize the slip angle of the FR-S. I think most people will be happy with ether car and won’t ever be able to tell any real difference. So unless you have been doing lots of Auto-X and RR I would not be overly conserved about the differences.

There are other videos with the BRZ drifting all over the place. I wouldn't take this as some definitive example.
Also, once you change the dampers and/or springs all of this comparison is thrown out the window! |

I don't know guys, Tsukuba Circuit is a very short circuit, shorter then the Top Gear test track. 1.1 does seem reasonably significant to me.
Don't want to get into magazine racing too much, but the video shows it's pretty clear that the vehicles behave pretty different at the limits. Not many of you will be driving it at the limit so it shouldn't weigh your decision too much. |

Just as a reference, you can see a time atack review w/ the 86 on the same circuit, Tsukuba, in the latest "Hot-Version", vol 115.
http://www.hot-version.jp/main/digest.php?si=1115 [u2b]A4yKqPmTZlk[/u2b] I don't know who drove the 86 (and its spec) and what the record is..... |
