Thanks for making sure this DIY stays up.
What other adaptations did you have in mind?

I got 1 9/16 x 1/2 since my sti sandwich plate used 1/2 on each barb. You can order pretty much any size you want there.

The 1 9/16 was incredibly tight, as in just about didn't work and only did with a bit of lubrication tight on the perrin hoses.

Just wanted to add a bit of data to this thread.

Went to Mid-O yesterday for a HPDE with the BRZ.

Car
-OFT stg 2 93 octane
-Revworks header, dp & Q300
-0w-20 motul
-stock coolant system
-full forrester oil cooler (obviously)

Ambient temps started out in the mid 70's.
-oil temps hovered around 230-235 while on track

Last session ambient temps were in the low 80's. I was making my best lap times at this point also.
-oil temps ranged 235-238 peaking at 240.

I figured this is fine for a NA car but I dont figure it would hold up too well with any future mods. I dont think additional water cooling mods would do much for it either. Would be time to upgrade to a thermostatic air\oil cooler I imagine.

Hope this helps.

I wonder if there is a way to combine this with a oil cooler plate( like a Setrab unit)

I wonder what would be easiest way to upgrade to a thermostatic air to air oil cooler, since we already tapped the coolant system and added the Forester pipe.. I think the ideal setup would be keeping this and add some sort of plate but I am not sure if that is possible

Perhaps a lower temp coolant thermostat would reduce the coolant temp

I didn't keep great track of the coolant temps but I don't remember them getting past 200* so I don't think that's an avenue for looking into. I need to look around and see what other setups are seeing as far as both temps.

Yes, the coolant temp is stable. With a lower temp coolant thermostat, the coolant may be held at a lower temp. This enables a bigger difference (delta) to oil temp and may allow the cooler to work better and keep lower oil temps.

It's a thought. I haven't tried it. My car is NA.

Thanks for the awesome DIY op. I installed mine today and everything went smoothly following your guide.

I went a different route on the manifold fitting as I found an oem Mercedes fitting the worked perfect.

Thanks again!

Is the in and out of the oil cooler very specific? Can I flip them around? The setup I'm thinking might need them to be flip around. Thanks in advance.
