So if I understand correctly, the recommendation for a NA w/ boltons + E-85 would be to get any GF-5 0w-20 oil and cut my oil change interval down to 3-5K? Also, the highly recommended oils would be Red Line 0w-20 and Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0w-20?

I think I'll get the Amsoil Signature Series 0w-20 since its GF-5 and change the oil every 3k miles and see how that goes.

bump. Very interested to see what oils people use. I e-mailed AMSOIL, asking for their recommendation for E85 usage. I changed my oil with Redline 5w-20 this time around, but if I can find it next time I think I'll do AMSOIL 0w-20 unless there's another solid alternative that's not crazy expensive.

I thought I was good, but didn't realize my oil behaves like a 40 weight oil which IMHO is too much for this engine. That is why I want alternatives. I would like to go with something more off the shelf than 300V. (Maybe that's the answer....)

@bluesubie
I got the knock knock at about 3800 miles on the same oil. Mobil 1 5w-30 on E85. I was over the miles I would have liked to be at to change the oil.

For a boosted 500+ whp FA20 what has been the consensus on the correct oil to use. Since the Subaru boosted FA20 uses 5w-30 and supposedly no bearing/clearances differences.

I was thinking about using Motul Synthetic Engine Oil 8100 5W40 X-CESS part # 102784 1l / 102870 5l. For the people with good oil knowledge of how it works and additives and such what are your thoughts? Trying not to spin another rod bearing while .

Find out which motor oil blenders use Lubrizol additive package formulations containing the Trident H-E-I technology. H-E-I stands for hydroethanol inhibitors.

Here's a hint: I installed Pennzoil Platinum Ultra with PurePlus 5W20 in my vehicle today. This oil will lead the way to ILSAC GF-6, which will require greater corrosion protection, for starters.

Beware of the great menace to society, White Sludge.

@Dan@AWD I use amsoil dominator because of a conversation I had with one of their engineers, NOT a salesman.

Dominator and Z-rod both produced some of the best 4 ball wear tests in the industry and that's what initially caught my attention. They are both high in zddp and the gentleman I talked with said race teams have sent in oil samples that survived close to 300* oil temps (dominator). Dominator has also been used in a lot of situations exposing it to alky and ethanol based fuels without problems.
Z-rod is a similar oil and was specifically marketed towards older hot rods with flat tappet cams(brutal wear item) that saw long storage periods and a high potential for fuel dilution. It's biggest difference between it and dominator is its high detergent level. Since dominator is a "race" oil it has no detergents which when running e85 doesn't matter since the e acts like a cleaner. Both are very high in zddp which is bad for cats but that's also not an issue for us.
I have no oil cooler and live in 90-100*F ambient temps dding 450whp without overheating in some steep mountains. I run amsoil dominator 10w30 and have a MAPerformance 8qt oil pan. I've been changing my oil at 3500 miles but amsoil is telling me to go longer. I just sent in a UOA for 3,500 and tentatively am going to send in another at 5k. I'll post those.
