^wow interesting perspective Paul. Personally I'm not worried. I waited 5+ years for Gran Turismo 5, 8+ years for Star Wars: The Old Republic... so if I can wait those out, I can wait a new car release out lol

It's been what, 4 years development for this car? I've waited this long what's another few months?

Japanese are so obsessive about saving their money that you get precisely 0% interest on savings accounts there.

The BRZ/FRS is selling well due to the fact it's a 2+2 that looks good, is a Toyota/Subaru, and isn't a Mazda. The rear seats will be too small for Americans, but not for skinny Japanese.

All of this. I dunno wtf the OP was thinking... Asian cultures in general prefer to save money. Japan is not an exception.

as with all "new" sports cars the demand is high at first but they do drop fast. Small 2door sports cars are not practical and demand will fall hard. Hence why they all eventually disappeared.

The last Japanese 2+2 FR RWD sports car coupe was what, the Supra in '98? Fluctuations of the yen and restrictive emission standards killed that one. We never got the "good" S14 (also dead in the U.S. in '98).

You could also throw the RX-8 into the mix even though it has four doors -- but gas mileage is horrible. The Renesis may make more horsepower but it's not as practical as the FA20. Yet the RX-8 enjoyed what, an eight-year-run? I'd take that. :happy0180:

8 year run that lost money and hurt reputation. Remember the celica gts in 2000, very hot new with markups. Toyota couldn't give them away after a year.

Toyota/Subaru is in a much better financial position to lose money than Mazda and as for tarnished reputation, perhaps only in your opinion.

The Celica's successor is the tC -- this is an unbroken lineage that began in 1970. Again, I'd take that. :happy0180:

Go ask any of the younger generation in Tokyo about saving money. They save it only to buy the next new trend. I was just there in November. If you compare Hong Kong to Japan it's very different. Everyone in Hong Kong works, saves, and then retires. Many of the younger generation Japanese are just working and spending.

My best friend lives in Hong Kong half the year and travels to Japan 4 times a year. He's 100% Chinese. This is all from him educating me on our last trip.

From what I heard its the Chevy Code 130R . "Both are small and fuel efficient, though the Code 130R is also somewhat sporty thanks to its turbocharged engine, optional six-speed manual and rear-wheel drive layout."

Reminds me of a 1 series with just a different front end.

If they are going to make 100k units a year, there will be no shortage. Its all hype folks. The Scions FR-S will be sitting on the lots by late summer.

If they are delaying japan orders, which are their home market, I think you can bank on the rest of the world getting delayed, maybe even more than Japan. I'm willing to bet that those dealer allotments will change for the U.S. There is no way that Subaru is gonna allow any dealer stock anywhere if they can't even fill new preorders in japan until January.

I'm not trying to be a debbie downer, but I'm preparing for a delay. Not large, but I'm #2 on the list at my dealer that has 7 coming in this year (as of right now), and I'm now hoping to get my car by the end of June because of this news.

all the FRS, GT86 and BRZs are sold out. Apparently Nissan bought all the remaining 1st year Zx6 unspoken for, and is disassembling and melting the cars down, and use the materials for a S16.

2014 Nissan Silvia : Made from the blood and bones of dead innocent Zx6s.

lol jk

Higher than project demand, yeah i can see that, its pretty inline with my reports and sources. Shortage? no way in hell will there be a shortage of these cars.

I think this is exactly right.

And I'm in the same boat as you, brufleth: I'll be waiting to buy mine.

For those who are buying now, I hope none of you mind if I vampire off a little of that joy you're experiencing.

This could actually work out better for me if I have to wait until, say, July. That's when my lease is up and I can save a little more $$ for a down payment by then.
