Guys, How many photos have we seen of the car, from reviews, to shows, to test drives, to spottings at HQ....every real life photo of this car has Red accents. I just can't see scion scrapping it for Canada...doesn't make a lot of sense. And if you look closely to the flash "360" FRS on the canadian website it has red accents. Beneale...what I meant by obvious reasons is that som e people can't give their sources away and jepordize their jobs for conflict of interest. |

a) The red car making rounds at the Canadian shows (with the red trim) is a pre-production unit, and the only one in Canada. and b) the production car will have black. This was as recent as last Sunday in my case. Now this leaves two obvious outcomes. a) It is coming with black, like they say. or b) It is keeping the red and Scion Canada is completely out of touch with their representatives who they sent out to inform people about the car across the country. My bet (and hope) is on black.

^add to last item above "and completely out of touch with their web page creation staff as well" as the web photos show black.

There's no logical reason they were put on that site as black other then the fact that the seats will be black. If they were going to be red they would have just re-used the same photos everywhere. But they are different which indicates to me that someone made the effort to make the change. Theres no reason to make the effort other then if someone told them to do so. I realize that some of you guys on here may work for Toyota, but I still can't rationalize the fact that at both major Canadian Autoshows, the reps have all said the same thing. Plus we see the photos right on the Canaidan Scion website. Maybe you guys who work for Toyota can do some digging for us to find some clues. One thing which might help us here is if we look at the heated mirrors. Its my understanding that Canada will have heated mirrors right? If this is true and is different from US models, How does Toyota/Subaru determine how to install them and into which cars??? There must be some way of marking the car for delivery in Canada and this marking is where I think the seats will come into play. The part numbers may be the exact same, but maybe there's something other then just the part numbers to seperate the 2 countries. I'm only guessing here but since some of you seem to be part of Toyota, I would love to hear your thoughts. bneale |

^^ +Heated mirrors as many have mentionned + maybe we'll be getting a functionnal middle red light (the triangle), which the US will not get.

I seems to remember that in one of the photo when the car is being built in the later stage, there is a piece of paper attached to the front bumper. Maybe, I guess, this is the paper to tell the builder to put which part into this car, as this car (VIN) is destined to a particular country. Keep in mind that the CDN car also has different gauge so they do not need to use the red stitching to differentiate it. If we look at the specs in Japan, the G grade comes with black seat while the GT grade comes with red stitching/patch. The G grade comes only at 16" wheel *without* Torsen LSD. Also it does not have the white tach as shown in the Scion FR-S. Just based on these difference, I wonder if the Scion FR-S for US/CDN is based on the GT trim, but without the Auto Hvac/Push start and other minor things, but with the red stitching. Here is the difference of trims in Japan for 86. http://toyota.jp/86/001_p_001/spec/e...oto/index.html Edit: on a second thought, I guess the corporate people at different regions can choose different options and set a price with it. It seems that the Scion FR-S does not follow the trim set in Japan. For example, the 86 badge, no fog lights, and HVAC are from G trim, however, the wheel, the LSD, gauge, the steering wheel and tail pipe are from the GT trim. So from the outside view (mine) there is no concrete evidence that red stitching is in or not. |

Anyone look at that link?
I find it funny that the "upscale", more expensive BRZ has Gauges VERY similar to a Low spec GT86(but WITH a digital speedo)..and the "cheap" scion gets the Upscale Toyota Gauges...

The FR-S really is a mix of G and GT Japanese 86 grades. Most of the stuff on the car that is interchangeable (replace one thing for another) that doesn't really cost much extra to do to the car from the the upscale version versus low-grade (seat fabric, sport pedals, etc.) is included on the FR-S, while actual extras (HID, smart key, fog lights, auto-climate) are omitted in order to lower costs.
This isn't anything new or unexpected though, almost every car in Japan has options we don't see here. Heck the AE86 had auto-climate on the GT Apex grade, we never had that here either. The mirrors are different between Canada and the USA, there are different part numbers for heated mirrors. Unless the catalog is wrong (it could be, who knows, just saying), Canada and USA are getting the same seats, which means either Canada will get the red accents, or the USA won't; assuming the catalog is to be believed. I'm still leaning towards the side which says the catalog is wrong and here's why. If the reps were wrong, I suspect Scion will take a lot of shit for advertising a car to the public and the media incorrectly. From a PR point of view, this wouldn't really be great for the company. For one thing, I'm a consumer who does his homework and is very annoyed when I purchase something and discover its not what was advertised. This just actually happened to me with my new PVR box. The PVR was supposed to be brand new but when the guy came to install it, it was already 94% full of recordings which tells me, its NOT a new box. I'm paying 360 bucks for something which was supposed to be brand new!! I called the cable company to complain and told them I didn't recieve what was advertised and in the end they gave me 100 dollars back simply because of their mistake. If the catalog is correct and the red seats will indeed be coming to Canada, how many of you guys are going to be pissed off because like me, you went to the Autoshow and were told they are going to be black? Like some of you have said, I prefer black but if the car color is red, then I prefer the red seats. But I'm trying to get an Ultramarine FR-S and so I'll be dissapointed if the seats really are red. To sum up the situation, if the reps are wrong, then Scion has a customer service issue to work out. If the catalog is wrong, then they just need to update the catalog. The catalog being wrong is the lesser of 2 evils and thats why I still believe the seats will be black. bneale |

I ordered a blue car and I would PREFER all black, but if they are red stitched I'm not going to cancel or change my choices.
VW GTIs are all red stitched no matter the colour and it's fine. The red patches are kinda meh but not enough to change. |

I have ordered my fr-s in hot lava. The red accents on the seats would be horrible so I too am hoping that the car won't have them. In fact I ordered the car in hot lava as opposed to another colour because I was assured the seats would be black. My dealer told me they would not have the red accents and he seemed very sure about this. If they come with the red I'll likely tell the dealer I want a different colour.
I know it may seem silly but aesthetically it would destroy the car. And something that I'm going to spend over $30k on should at least have an interior that matches the car. Having said that, the red stitching is subtle and therefore no problem, I actually hope it has it. |

It's a PR nightmare if it happens. Which is why my gut still tells me the parts catalog numbers are in fact wrong. I don't have proof but my gut says the seats will be black. bneale |
