Differences In Types of Headlights/Lighting

Can someone explain the differences between various types of headlights?

for example the lighting in halogen projectors vs HID system projectors? what is different?

bi-zenon, PNP,retrofit........WHAT DO THEY MEAN!? and how do they work etc...i don't know much about lighting(all i ever did was a 50$ HID system off ebay...it wasn't that good). What are the different types of lighting and how you order them in highest satisfaction?

The bulbs. The reflectors and lenses will be shaped a bit different, but they are functionally the same.

Bi-Xenon: HID projector with a cut-off shield that can be flipped down electronically to turn a low beam into a high beam.

PNP: Plug and play. Presumably into your stock wiring harness.

Retrofit: Inserting salvaged HID projectors into your OEM headlights. Usually involves an oven, power tools and a weekend or two in the garage (or UPS and your checkbook).

For anything else, check out HIDplanet.

The internal reflector bowl and cutoff shields are different between a halogen projector and an HID projector. They look the same on the outside but are very different on the inside. This is why people make the mistake of jamming HID kits into halogen projectors thinking they will work just fine, when in reality the output is horrible. Halogen projectors also have a certain amount of "glare" built into them to help illuminate road signs at night and putting HID bulbs into halogen projectors just intensifies this glare to unsafe levels at night for other drivers on the road.

HID headlights are going to have a higher output in lumens (how the amount of light is measured) over traditional halogen lighting.

Please don't buy the $50 kits off e-bay they're dangerous for other drivers and could potentially fry the wiring in your car.

I also recommend HIDplanet for all your lighting questions and needs.

I know you say they're plug-n-play, but it looks like those are different than the H11 bulbs (they lack the plastic housing and "elbow" part). Do you have to disassemble a stock bulb and use it with that?

Or if you have some installation pics or a DIY somewhere, that'd be awesome. Do you still need to push down the little "squirrel finders" so there's no glare to oncoming traffic?
