I highly doubt there will be a fix to this as toyota and subaru have written this off as "normal" now.

Have you seen documentation of Subaru calling it normal? I've been looking and can't find anything.

I'm on the new pump according to the TSB and after 500 or so miles I just noticed the stupid chirping today. I'm so pissed off.

Same here, I'm trying to decide if I have them change it three times so that I can use the Lemon Law to ditch the car if they can't get this fixed. I've seen too many FR-S' burn to the ground for me to trust this pump.

These cars aren't burning to the ground because of a fault with the pump. They're burning to the ground because of improper service procedures when working on the fuel system. The crickets have nothing to do with it.

Is that what they've narrowed it down to? I haven't seen much follow up on the posts. Still pissed they changed the pump knowing there isn't a fix yet on the TSB. They (the dealership) should have just told me that there is no resigned fuel pump yet.

If that were the case, they would have updated the TSB saying so. They have not done so at this time.

I could've sworn there was a TSB calling it normal at one point.

The TSB updated 4/15/14 is posted in this thread:

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67546

It doesn't actually say that the chirp is "normal." It says, "This result is non-detrimental to the fuel system or engine." What they said is normal is the ticking sound the pump makes, not the chirp.

If I'm reading that TSB correctly, cars manufactured after September 2013 should have the newer fuel pump with the changes to the chamber and plunger. Mine was manufactured early this year, and it still chirps. I think if the chirp could be eliminated, they would have already done it.

As far as I'm concerned, this sound is normal for this pump, and I'd rather drive and grin than obsess over it.

Correct, and that language has been in the TSB since the original release.

this may sound like a noob question, but is there 2 "different" fuel systems on this car? port injection and direct? and if so are there 2 different fuel pumps - the normal fuel pump that all cars have and the HPFP? is that correct?

Almost, but the two systems are not entirely separate. There's a fuel pump under the rear seat that feeds the port injection system, but it also delivers fuel to the high pressure fuel pump. The HPFP then delivers fuel to the direct injection system.

I've used nothing but ethanol free Shell V91 for almost a year, and I've had chirp issues for 90% of the time I've had the vehicle. I brought the TSB to the dealership, but they sound very unconvinced a replacement pump will make any difference. So basically they know its pointless TSB.

and correct me if I'm wrong, but the port injection is for normal driving conditions and the direct injection is for hard driving like WOT after 4k rpm?
