Maybe you can post pics of some interesting and unique mods you have done to your car? I'd certainly like to know how an adult mods their car.

Yes, the windows still drop the small amount upon opening the door. That is one of the reasons why I believe the door will raise in a more vertical travel once I modify the post on the hinge. I don't want to grind it down too much though because if the shock did fail it is this post which would keep the door from dropping straight down.

are there better shock options? it bounces around a fair bit at the end of each movement.

I don't think it is the shock as much as the instability involved with having only one pivot point. When it is open there is considerable movement which I don't believe can be removed. Unfortunately, this is a structural issue which must be accepted if you want to do this modification. The only time it really bothers me is when I let the door open without keeping hold of it. It will open up with enough force to shake the whole car and bounce around.

You automatically assume that if someone expresses an opinion that isn't like yours or is like the majority's that they're a lemming?

So its not that vertical doors are flat out bad in my eyes except...

A. Having to open the door normally first makes this entire mod pretty stupid since it accomplishes almost nothing except adding more steps to getting in and out of the car.

B. there is so much play in the movement that it looks like a bad hack.

C. Its really not your vertical doors I hate, its those inner city ghetto bling blang wheels. (I do apologize for being an azz here but man those things just don't jive with the car)

If the doors actually opened vertically like you would imagine they would (like a lambo) I could for sure see the benefits of this.

I see your points. I'm working on modifying them to open in a more vertical motion but the play will probably not be able to be reduced. As for my wheels - it may be my age but I love the chrome - different strokes.

Yea its your car man, at least the stock pads don't dust. Where does the play originate from? The mounts look pretty beefy.

Having only one pivot point, no matter how thick the steel is it will never be firm like the 2 hinge set up of a normal door. It's one of the attributes of this mod which can't be corrected. Like I mentioned earlier, it really only bothers me if I allow the door to raise without holding on to it.

Looks great!
This might be a stupid question, but how do you have a FT86 in Fl.?

I understand the rebadging concept, but the OP actually says "FT86" in the 'drives' field in his avatar. If it IS just a rebadge job, then that is a little misleading.

I completely expected to see the location be Australia

Your right, it was purchased as a Scion. I have since rebadged and purchased everything I could to make it Toyota. I'm the original owner of an '89 MR2 and this car was its' replacement. It just bugged me looking at "Scion" so I changed it. You know - the title actually says Toyota.

I would like them if they could go up after opening it like an inch. Obviously you will always have to swing out before up on any car. But that's waaaay out.

And OP is right btw, a scion frs is titled as
Make: Toyota
Model: scion frs
