Back to main topic, I usually prefer 9 and 3, because racecar, but sometimes do one hand on 8 and the other resting on the ebrake during casual driving.

I see most SUV-touting soccer moms (along with grandmas and small Asian girls) doing the 10 and 2'o clock position, sitting way too close to the wheel and struggling to see over it. Looks ridiculous

I guess mine would mostly be an 11 o'clock with one hand, thumb on the wheel rather than around it. I also switch hands depending on which direction I'm turning. I've found it's easier to turn left with my left hand and right with my right hand, go figure. Other than that, I drive mostly with my right hand.

Thumbs out!

Even though, they said 10-2 with thumbs in when I was in school. Apparently wrecking sucks worse when the airbag rips the tendons and ligaments in your thumbs

I'm usually a 10-2 when both hands are required. Often I'm just a 10...eh maybe a 10:30-10:45

It's 9 and 3. Our steering wheels are specifically designed for this. The depression in the steering wheel at 9 and 3 are where the bottom part of your thumb sits and the part that protrudes into the center is where the top of your thumb rests.

Exactly like this:

Thumbs in or out I don't see how the airbag can snag your thumbs.

Is there something I a missing?

The biggest thing wrong here is that he's totally on the wrong side of the car.

Who cares if other people think you look "cool" or not while you are driving.

Knowing you have the best control over your car by holding the steering wheel properly is the coolest way to drive in my book.

I await your "Well I lost control of my vehicle today... But I looked really fucking cool while I did it!" post.

9 and 3 for me, in general.

Dr. Thompson, a psychiatrist who lives in Pittsburgh, was honking the horn of his 2006 BMW 325xi to warn a vehicle that had pulled in front of him. The cars hit, and Dr. Thompson’s air bag deployed from the minor impact.
That's why... if your hands are gripping the wheel like they're supposed to be instead of raging on the horn, your thumbs should be fine

I see. Probably won't be able to make sharp turn quickly in emergency.
