I really don't understand why the 12'o clock grip has to be exclusively associated with douchebaggery... I am in no way a douchebag (IMO, anyway :3) but I find the single overhand grip to be comfortable for cruising on the highway, mostly because the weight of my arm is supported by the wheel.

Back to main topic, I usually prefer 9 and 3, because racecar, but sometimes do one hand on 8 and the other resting on the ebrake during casual driving.

I see most SUV-touting soccer moms (along with grandmas and small Asian girls) doing the 10 and 2'o clock position, sitting way too close to the wheel and struggling to see over it. Looks ridiculous

If you're going to ride along with your hand at 12 and your other hand engaging in questionable behavior, do not wrap your thumb around the steering wheel. Keep it on the same side as your fingers. Otherwise you will break your thumb if you get into an accident and the airbag grabs it.

between 9-8 on LH and 3-4 on RH for me with thumbs pointed up, not wrapped around the wheel. Allows for quickest steering response and most stability at the same time.

I really didn't think much about where I hold the wheel until I saw this thread. Just got back from driving and my left hand is at 12 and right hand is on the e brake. I have been driving like this forever and had no idea it is dangerous. I have long arms and I'm tall and this has always been most comfortably place to hold the wheel. I had no idea I drive with one hand...

It rotates freely so you can grab securely and steer one-handed. You see them on trucks and construction equipment a lot.

9 and 3 but when I am cruising just usually one hand on 9 with my elbow on the arm rest on the door

Unfortunately I am guilty of having a removable steering wheel in my other car. In my defense though, I got it quite a few years ago when it was still "cool" and I legit wanted a smaller steering wheel because the stock one in Neons are freaking huge!

I don't think anyone is knocking the removable steering wheel, just the toolsheds who used to do the "wheel out the window hang" a couple years ago.

Oh ok, well I've never done that but if I was stuck in traffic I would take it off and hand it to my passenger (if I had one) and have them pretend to drive lol.

I would never take my freaking steering wheel off at anything faster than a slight roll. People doing that shit on the highway are crazy
