FYI from Scion website:

CAN I USE SYNTHETIC OIL IN MY SCION VEHICLE?
If you decide to use synthetic oil for the engine, it is best not to switch until the first scheduled oil change and to also contact the oil manufacturer for advice. Synthetic oil should meet or exceed the specifications provided in your Owner's Manual. Even if synthetic oil is used, we DO NOT recommend a longer oil change interval. If you wish to choose to switch back and forth, please contact the manufacturer of the synthetic oil you have been using to see whether or not this is recommended. Please make sure you use the same weight and viscosity specifications as seen in your Owner's Manual in order to keep your warranty intact.

Let me spell it out for you:

The factory fill in the car is synthetic, perhaps with new "break-in additives". The oil itself is synthetic.

I don't care what the Scion or Subaru website tells me. That FAQ is written to cover all of the Scion vehicles... I only care about what oil is in my engine, in my car.

Teach what? That the oil is in need of a sooner change? Or that our factory oil is conventional?

Enlighten us, since you seem to know more than us.

[QUOTE=Kzzy;1804328]I got my first oil change on my FR-S at around 7000 miles. I feel like I waited a little too long to get an oil change. Also how often should I get my oil changed? every 3000 or 5000 miles?
every 3000 miles is most highly recommended, especially if you want the car to last longer

I believe there's more moly in the break in oil.
I have no idea what moly does exactly.

For those that say you need to change the oil at 3000 miles.

How about 16000 miles (yes you read that right - sixteen thousand miles) instead??

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67425

After changing syn oil after:
5800, 10000, 12300, 14101, 16065 miles BETWEEN CHANGES.
The oil after 16000 miles was CLEANER than the first 5800.
And still WAY inside the "values should be" as determined by blackstone.

So 3000 miles between changes with synthetic???
Just pour liquid money down the drain, because it is less trouble than changing the oil.
