Now who was it that said that the BRZ is a better value than the FR-S

JK, but I wouldn't worry about this, the markup will be gone after a couple months. Dealers will realize that $5000 over MSRP is a great way to LOSE a customer, lol.

I totally agree with you all this hype make dealers think they a gold mine but you have to be very innocent to pay over invoice

The only place I see unbound excitement about these cars is on this forum and in some automobile publications. That only makes sense because generating excitement about a car is what both those enities exist for.

Only a few "must have it first types" will pay anything as ridiculous as $5000 over MSRP for these cars and once those idiots have theirs then the prices will come down to MSRP or below. As that one TV commercial says "Don't be THAT guy!"

This. After all, there's only two possible outcomes, either it's sold or not. There's really no loss until the "hype" dies down.

Kind of funny that this didn't have much of a showing at the auto shows

But for the average joe in the street or wife who likes the look of the car they won't shop around just pay the price to have the newest hottest car on the road the next day

Porsche / Ferrari / Lamborghini have done it for years
Not true, again, only scumbag dealers will. I worked at a Porsche dealership for years, they never sold a car over MSRP. My friend also only paid MSRP for his Lamborghini Aventador, which is a car that has an 18 month wait list. The dealership just had some decency. I don't care what car you're selling, MSRP is perfectly fair, any more is trashy to me.

True, if the price of BRZ in Canada is high compared with FR-S, Subaru Canada will lose sales over to the Scion. However, they have not released the pricing so I guess it is still TBD.

Subaru Canada does not have a good track record with WRX and WRX STI if you look at the prices in Canada and the ones in US.

I'm getting one of the first in FL and paying under MSRP :P

Yeah and they have yet to win any auto show award or anything like that.

Not really. There's no real history here like a Camaro has (especially in a city like Detroit), or the GT500 Mustang on a Dyno doing 4th gear pulls on the middle of the autoshow floor, etc. Only people specifically interested in it really stopped to check it out, otherwise it was just another small 2 door coupe sitting on a spinning platform. This is a niche car, but not an exotic or car/brand with historical important in the US, so general consumers aren't going to rush to the auto show displays.

I adore the philosophy of this car, but would I pay Mustang GT money for a car with less than 1/2 the horsepower and less technology? Um, no.

I talked to two of the six Toyota dealers here in Calgary about potential mark-ups and both have been adamant that they will not charge a penny over MSRP. Apparently a lot of people asked about it before placing pre-orders. One guy indicated that "this is not that kind of car."

I'm very curious about Canadian MSRP for the BRZ. I'm guessing MSRP itself will be marked up above US pricing by just enough to create a dilemna about value :-).

Me as well. 250NAhp and an 8000rpm+ redline would even make me foolish enough to pay a mark-up like some suckers are on the current car.

I can only hope Scion dealerships don't jump the same boat, as far as I have been asking they all say "high interest" has been shown for the cars and they are "very limited" blah blah, I can care less, tell me the price, if I like it I buy it if not I don't.

At this rate I may just wait 1 1/2 years when there are more cars and dealers actually have to compete to get the customers.
+1. Fools, both dealers and customers. I'm not going to pay a dime more than MSRP, which in my opinion is already questionable performance value and will have the exclusivity of a pair of jeans within 2 years. Not dogging the car, I want one, but Toyota have confirmed this car is not meant to be exclusive.

It's amazing dealerships still practice this with all the competition that can easily be found online through a simple search but if you want to pay that mark-up then it's entirely on you.
