I will be keeping my current car until the STI version arrives, and list price.

One article...why is everybody is jumping the gun? I have not received a call from my dealership saying any mark-up will be added. Has anyone else? Great article...but I have not heard of too many people getting the shaft yet...oh wait...I have not heard of ANYONE taking delivery of their vehicle yet either. I think everyone should wait until REAL prices are being shared with others before we start up another hype machine.

If the dealership does call me and tell me that they have no other choice than to charge me XXXX amount of dollars extra, I will have no bad feelings or anger about walking away from a horrible deal...If that's the case. I CAN WAIT.

I bought an '08 STI in December of 2008 for $8000+ less than MSRP and 0% just so dealerships could get rid of them, good luck getting a hatch for that now. If we all could wait this BS out, all of them would want these cars off their lots for a lot less than MSRP. I know, that isn't going to happen.

I'm at MSRP for my BRZ Limited 6MT. I even got the dealer to take the doc fee from $249.00 down to $100.00. I'd like to see the doc fee go away but that probably won't happen.

All in all I'm happy with what my deal will be. Interesting that my dealer said that I'm the only one that ordered a BRZ from them. They only had one allocation anyway.

I will laugh not only at the dealer's faces but at the customers' who pay that much for this car. Really, I can get a brand new IS for about that much.

I can only hope Scion dealerships don't jump the same boat, as far as I have been asking they all say "high interest" has been shown for the cars and they are "very limited" blah blah, I can care less, tell me the price, if I like it I buy it if not I don't.

At this rate I may just wait 1 1/2 years when there are more cars and dealers actually have to compete to get the customers.

And BRZs aren't that limited. I laugh when anyone calls 3500 cars in just 7 months limited. Short supply, sure.. but limited.. no.

I won't pay a 1 cent over the MSRP. And that's if they give me good deal on trade-in. Paying MSRP is stupid enough in my books... But I will do it since I want the car.

Anyone who pays a 20% markup on this car is a complete idiot. With the internet and a little time anyone should be able to get the car at or slightly above MSRP (a couple hundred) at the very max.

The car looks great, but it's not a Lambo/Ferrari/Pagani/McLaren/etc

When I handed over my deposit to the dealer I signed a purchase agreement stating that I would purchase the vehicle for MSRP + tax, title, and doc. fee. No reputable dealer would add additional fees after the purchase agreement has been signed because I doubt if it's even legal.

This. And even paying MSRP plus fees still nearly made me walk. Dealers will realize this is a bad idea when they start losing deposits. You could easily buy a 370Z at that price or a specced out genesis coupe, among other options. If my dealer tries to slip in a markup after the fact, they'll get a huge up yours. But I trust them not to as a repeat buyer and the fact that there is a signed purchase agreement and receipt of deposit.

No one should be paying over $30k for this car, "limited quantities and high demand" or not.

All the dealers I talked to in NE FL put in writing that it would be MSRP +TTL. They actually told me they want to get more pre-orders in since some of them are new and don't have a track record of WRX/STI sales. I would head over there and drive one back.

$31k for base.... Ouch... Could order a WRX with pretty much everything(useful) and come well under 30k.

I think Subaru dealers might be falling into the trap of believing their own hype. I went to two huge auto shows to see the BRZ and the FR-S. There were never any crowds around these cars like there were at the Camaro, Mustang, and Genesis displays (among others). Most people that I know do not even know about the cars or are pretty apethetic about it. This includes friends and family that I consider car enthusiast and who regularly attend sports car races with me.

The only place I see unbound excitement about these cars is on this forum and in some automobile publications. That only makes sense because generating excitement about a car is what both those enities exist for.

Only a few "must have it first types" will pay anything as ridiculous as $5000 over MSRP for these cars and once those idiots have theirs then the prices will come down to MSRP or below. As that one TV commercial says "Don't be THAT guy!"

^ I was at the Detroit Auto Show (on a weekday though) and hardly anyone showed interest in the BRZ.

the dealerships have the right to charge whatever they think the market will bear, and the consumer has the right to not buy it that price and wait.
