He is right
Track it and you will see
Oil embolism tendencies exist and are for real.

PCV has nothing to do with the IC. Catching PCV vapor is for reducing oil in intake manifold.

The breather line which is routed from the block to the intake tube normally on a stock car, is re-routed to the intake tract of forced induction cars. In the case of turbo or SC cars it's universally accepted any blow by from the breather system will accumulate in your IC and over time and hurt efficiency of the IC, this is nothing new.

Its pretty much common sense to catch it, if you don't then just accept you will have to pull your IC off eventually to clean it out.

What are the benefits or disadvantages of having a ventilated PCV catch can against a closed loop system like these two items here?

My gut tells me that the breather system helps protect against a blocked system and the rough idle and other symptoms associated with it?

Mine is routed inline with the rear PCV and I catch a decent amount every thousand or so miles. I empty it after every track day (over 10 so far) and always have some accumulation in there.

I disagree. Just because it's cheaper doesn't make it any less functional. It couldn't be easier to drain, either.

Lots of good reviews here. http://amzn.com/B004K9BIY4

Any DIY of your mounting solution?

Just removed the cross brace, measured and drilled two holes in it using the provided mounting bracket as a template, screwed in the provided screws and put a couple heavy duty zip ties around the screws/bracket/bar for extra security. Pretty simple.

I think even the cheap catch cans should work just fine to catch the vapors so we basically pay more for being able to remove the bottom part easily, and ability to check the oil level (indicator or dip stick) so is it worth paying about $100-150 extra? I don't know that is the question you should ask yourself

even after my fifth track event (within the couple months lol) and numerous pulls and daily driving I have nothing in the breather side, maybe I will collect some amount down the road but I believe it will be something negligible ..

interesting point, never though about that I will most likely change mine sometime

yes and no, since the collected oil also consists of unburned fuel I am not sure if it would affect the white teflon tape

Picked this up last night

Once I find a convenient place to mount I'll post some feedback in a separate thread.

I put mine here.
I really couldn't find any better place.
Borrowed Dezoris idea of location and made my own bracket.
If you have removed intake sound generator, then you
can use that mid point to bolt up to make it hold better.

Thank you, much appreciated! What is connected to the mid bolt in your images? Also How has your experience been with it thus far?

So far I like it.
I think its great for some one who doesn't want to spend or can't afford $200/can. If you look my previous post, there is picture taken after only about 3 weeks of DD with few times of WOT.

For mid bolt, there is black metal piece that used to hold small hose part of noise generator. If you remove noise generator, you will see. That piece of metal is bendable so you can align it with your bracket easily.
