Tranny problems?
So today I pulled my car into the shop at work to swap out the fluid. Odometer at 1000.
I was so excited to feel the change on my gears with no success... I don't know if I used the right fluid... I know that's what it calls for... What have you guys used? Gears feel so crunchy!!!!! Help. My motors feels happy though! |

Pentosin 3 Liter; 75W-80 Trans Oil. That's what you want. You'll still feel a little chunkiness until you have used your car for a while. After 30k miles, that fluid, and all kinds of Whiteline suspension bushings, my shifts are nice and smooth. When I was still at low mileage it was still a little chunky even with the fluid and bushings.

I think that's supposed to be decent oil. I'm at just over 500 miles on the odometer so far, last night ordered oil to swap out by trans and diff at 1000.
I went with Motul Gear 300. Not only is it overall a well respected oil but it worked wonders on my WRX 5 speed transmission and my STI 6 speed.

Yeah reading all the threads I really hoped that I would feel a difference I don't want to be just switching fluids around until I get better results. I might just go to the dealer. It is 2nd, 3rd, and 6th to be specific. Sometimes 1st. It frustrates me. Lol.

I thought pentosin helped when I first changed it out at about 2000 miles. At 15,600 my transmission took a complete dump and had to be replaced under warranty. Now that I have the new transmission, it's better than it ever was from the beginning. Buttery smooth. 0 crunchiness. And thats with stock fluid and only 200 miles on it since it was put in.
I advise all people who have a crunchy transmission to go complain and get it replaced. The new ones are way better than my June 2013 model was. |

If your're having tranny problems, I feel bad for you son, I got 99 problems and shifting aint one.
On another note, My Motul Gear 300 came in for both the tranny and differential. Can't wait to see how much crap comes out after 18k miles on the magnetic drain plug on the diff. Also can't wait to see how much better my car shifts at the low RPM's. |

Also to add on that, get a Whiteline positive shift kit and the Perrin rear shifter bushing. Those two minor parts alone significantly improved my shifting and made the shifts more crisp. Very noticeable when they went in.

Check for clutch drag. A dragging clutch can kill your transmission within only a few shifts as the synchros are fragile. It doesn’t matter what they are made of or if they are double or triple synchro, they will be ruined if the clutch drags, period.

Just ordered r
4L motul gear 300, mtec shift Springs, whiteline tyranny support and perrin shift spring. I'll do a short review once I get them installed. My tranny is alright. Miss 2nd sometimes while giving her which is really annoying and embarrassing. Hopefully these mods help with shifting under load. While shifting slowly it's smooth as butter though.
