simply because 0w-20 is for fuel efficiency hence the word "Advanced fuel economy"

and designed for NA engine (near stock power levels) and adding about 60-65% more power to the engine will/should require better lubricating ...even the manual says that you can use 5w-30 so why not use it when you add FI ..ever compared the flash points and kinematic viscocities at certain temps? It's still your engine though, do whatever floats your boat

and lastly, with the same oil cooler and koyoRad with 0w-40 Mobil 1 engine oil I've seen my temps reached to 260-270F after a few laps, and that's with 70-75 F ambient temps here in Pacific Northwest where the climate is always a bit cooler than the rest of the nation... since you guys live in Texas without an adequate oil results may be catastrophic IMO

Just because Amsoil won't start breaking down until 300F+ doesn't mean that the engine can survive with the viscosity of Amsoil at that temperature.

I guess for me, on the street, the oil doesn't care if it's 160HP or 260HP. If it's operating at the specified temperature then the viscosity will remain the same. The redline isn't any higher than stock either. The forester oil cooler keeps it below 230F on the street and I've never seen it higher. I have yet to track the car with the oil cooler. Last time it hit 250F NA with no oil cooler when I would pit.

I don't want to argue about what weight oil you should run on the street, I just feel that for the street, 0w20 works for me. The track will be a completely different story.

do it yourself a favor and take a few more logs during some "spirited" driving I am willing to bet you in Texas heat in summer your temps should pass 250F even on the street if you're really on it..

I have a scan gauge that is hooked up 24/7 that shows oil and coolant temps. even driving like a total asshole with multiple uturns to get on and off the highway I can't break 230f. once you start to build speed the radiator really does a good job of keeping the oil in check with the coolant. and there is no run away either with one affecting the other.

Installed and loving it. Power band is awesome and linear.

Question, when not going full throttle, I hear a whirring noise similar to air being blown into a plastic coke bottle. Can't seem to pin point it. Never heard it before the SC. Anyone else encounter this?

It's probably a boost leak. Did you clamp or zip tie the hoses?

Yup took off the ITM and clamp downed 4 ends of the hoses.

Well looks like the kit is no longer for sale. In the next month or so out will be going back on with the engine oil cooler as well as a new header from jdl and a flex fuel kit. should be in the 330 to 350 range when it's done and tuned. I will also be clamping down the hoses and maybe that will fix the boat leak around 7k i was having.

Installed my mishimoto oil cooler with the kraftwerks/skunk2 sandwich plate. Clearance is just close enough.


I was going to put two more brackets on the bottom of the cooler, but I literally burned out my Dewalt drill putting holes in that beam. It's still very secure though.
Next stop is a shop that can cut out my grill and mustache and replace it with a custom grill so I can get some air flow to the oil cooler.
