I have. A pair of these. I ended up putting the stock driver side back on as I prefer the correct distance on my side, but use the Rexspeed exclusively for the passenger Side blindspot. I feel much more confident moving right now.

Polarization is a grid that's placed in the glass/plastic that changes the way light of certain directions (polarities, hence polarization) is reflected to the driver. It does nothing to the color. Most sunglasses you buy are polarized - are all polarized sunglasses blue? No. Also, they make a yellow version of the these (well, some manufacturer does) as well. Just not clear/untinted.

This can be demonstrated by taking two pairs of polarized sunglasses, putting one pair on and holding the other pair in front of your eyes, and rotating them. At some point all the light will be blocked and you won't see anything. You can also demonstrate this by looking through polarized sunglasses at an LCD screen and turning your head until you're looking at the screen sideways - the light will dim as the grid aligns with the light waves coming from the screen.

The color is a separate coating in the surface of the glass or an additive in the glass.

Most sunglasses are NOT polarized as they make them a good deal more expensive. Most sunglasses are just normal sunglasses and any polarized sunglasses will be marked accordingly as its a selling point and there normally 30 bucks more. Most sunglasses are a darkish green tint fyi even though most people just think its a blackish tint, its actually green.

As for the blue tint its suppose to be to reduce the intensity of bright warm lights (ie the sun) so the blue is fantastic for very sunny/daytime driving.

As for the yellow tint its suppose to help with night time driving as it helps lighten things up a bit.

A little off topic, but no. Most sunglasses are not "darkish green". The G15 colour that you're referring to is the Ray Ban colour.
Most sunglasses are either gray, or brown.

Indeed. I scan mirrors pretty much all the time, but when it comes to moving left or right, well, then I look left or right. Somehow it seems sensible to look where you are going. The number of times there has been a teleporting cyclist, instant pop up small car or warp crotch rocket there when I look has always made me keep to the habit.

I have only test driven the GT86 once, waiting delivery, so I'll reserve judgement on it specifically, but... I believe the point of having at least some of the car in your mirrors is to give the image in the mirror a visual reference anchor. Without a solid reference point you cannot tell the distance objects are, especially laterally, from the side of the car. Highly important when reversing, parking and tight rush hour traffic scrums. Although it's an interesting idea purely for "highway"/motorway driving. Might try it.

I could not find a before-and-after comparison, so I tried to do that when installing mine.

Please note, this is NOT how I set my mirrors for driving, I needed to see the back of my car to line up the shots. And I was sloppy, it started raining and I'd just washed the car.
Also, the guy with the white Volvo left while I was working on this. I will not do a reshoot.

But, without even trying to do the math, this doesn't look like the advertised "you will gain approx. 30-40% vision".

I was hoping for a much better mirror. Put me down as slightly disappointed.

that's pretty disappointing....I know you won't be reshooting, but could the distance between your camera and the mirror make a difference?

Good point. It doesn't. This is exacly what it looked like, I checked the "before" photos before continuing.

I still think the biggest blind spot in this car is the B pillar when making certain turns. Can't do anything about that one though.

Actually it makes a big difference in the view angle in actual use, especially
if you have it adjusted like you're used to.
The downside of the mirror is the objects in view are smaller and distance
is more difficult to judge. By glancing at the center rearview, you get a reference of distance. I got used to the mirrors quickly and its a big improvement for me.. Also the polarization keeps the glare down. YMMV.

There's a difference, but I'd like to see the "30-40%" measured.
Mercedes has some great mirrors with no blind spots, I just miss those.
I don't miss the maintenance costs on an ageing E-class, though. Nor the sluggish barge-like handling

I'm 6'5" and lean waaaay back. IMHO there are 2 issues at hand.

1. Head position relative to big-assed c-pillar. I understand the need for, and appreciate its size.

2. Rear-view mirror provides too narrow a field-of-view from way back there. I'll report findings after my you-pull-it trip. Maybe a bigger one will fit the shoe (anchor?).

If the C-pillar is in your way, you need a bigger car dude.
