I've been there and done that with he crappy JDM brands and coilovers (Tanabe) but I would say Tein isn't quite in that category. They make a whole range of stuff and as usual you get what you pay for and if my memory serves me you can get them rebuilt in the US. I will probably go for something non-JDM but I have seen plenty of folks be successful using Teins including winning ST autox national championships.

I'm just happy folks will have so many choices out of the gate.

"Ya know the Germans make good stuff" LOL, anyone thinking about Eibach??

...as for spring rates, I remember seeing in a video in Japan,
they were running 8K in front and 6K in the rear which was ironic (86 hohoho)

i agree....TEIN isn't what they use to be...there's so many other (sad to say this) better companies that have good prices and perform a little better..

i'm going with Cusco...already placed the order

So, Drew. Thumbs up or down for the spring rates being the same front to back?

It's a good starting point for a coilover for this car. For some applications, set-ups, drivers, etc. many will want a a little more in the rear. For lowering springs which are working with lower overall rates, a little more in the rear may also be a good idea.

At the least I would try not to do softer in the rear on this car.

Looks like HKS is using 6kg front / 4kg rear on their "street" setup and 8kg front / 6kg rear on their "track" setup

http://www.hks-86.com/suspension.htm

just another data point.

Same with Hondas. The JDM rates work if you do a bunch of other stuff with Hondas (ie, run wide front tires and narrow rear, agressive alignments, etc).

I'd rather just setup the suspension better and then use the rest to fine tune as needed, not as a requirement.
