@Element Tuning thank you for sharing your findings. I'm glad that I'm not the only one experiencing low oil pressure issues at the track. I'll be sure to follow your thread.
@victorb suggested using a smaller oil filter to help with the pressures. What are your thoughts on this? |

Fairly quick rob. Around 2-3 days. Yes I ordered it direct from cravenspeed. I'll have Autokoz wire the gauge up, then visit you for the install of the galley plug when you're free.

NA guys just shouldn't worry much but it's still not a bad idea to run a high quality synthetic and to also run a cooler if you track the car. I would imagine even 45 psi is safe. Now for those who are turbocharged or supercharged I found 350 was reliable under racing conditions but I was running 40w Red Line Race oil. This oil is really the best at staying in grade at high temperatures (staying at the rated viscosity) which will help with oil pressure. Supercharged guys may get away with a little more power since power increases linearly with oil pressure and doesn't have the early torque peak you get from a turbocharger. Plenty of people are spinning bearings even with build motors and I have which is why I'm R&Ding oil pumps etc. Now I was running 400+ hp and 9k RPM with 325 racing slicks so given the data we are seeing it's no surprise to me I spun a bearing. For us to build a reliable race worthy engine we need to see a consistent 85 psi in street conditions and ideally 75 psi under racing conditions. I truly feel based on our engine and racing experience, nothing less will be reliable (at 400+ hp) Thanks, Phil Grabow |

Total 5w50.
Stock engine w/ Oil cooler. Oil temp ~90 to 100c, Oil press(idle) at ~ 1.5 to 2.0bar, On load is ~ 6.0bar Oil temp ~110 to 120c, Oil press (idle) ~1.2 bar, On load is ~ 5.0bar. Sensor is located same place as the factory spot. Local temp noon time is ~ 30 to 34c. Q? I wonder is we used higher viscosity oil ie 10w50, 15w50 or 10w60 will we have higher oil press... ie 6.0bar+ on load even oil temp reach 120c? Thks |

You're already exceeding the recommended viscosity at 5w30. I would strongly recommend going to anything higher

yeap... that's just a recommended spec. Over here the weather is damn HOT & Humid all year round. there for I don't follow the factory spec. also our boxer engine crank bearing hv to take more load then an In-line. so need a higher/stable oil press to "hold" up the bearing if for long term use. also this car spend most of the drive time in a track then road used.
anyway.. thks for the feedback. |

thks! So far if I rev to 7k rpm from 1st to 5th gear the oil temp stay ~ 120c with 5 hot laps (5.5km/laps) , unless that noon time we have weather temp of >38c.
May be next round will try out the 300v 15w50.... as over here 10w50 seem not available. give up some HP is better sorry then a bad crank bearing.. haha. will try to cover that with better handling. also I think I read some where.... it said cos' due to our dual AVCS system the engine may have a lower oil press? thks again! |

The dual AVCS isn't the direct cause it's due to the design of the oiling system in that it's not a "main priority" engine. Search out my thread in "Engine" if you want to know exactly how the oiling system is designed and why it's a problem. In a nutshell your main bearings do not get oil pressure priority, everything shares the same priority (mostly). Thanks, Phil Grabow |

@Dezoris That about sums it up. Yes we're good. Ok we're still acceptable. Oh boy this is bad! LOL!
