Throttle Blip Hiss

how does a hiss when blipping the throttle have anything to do with the pilot bearing for the clutch?

rattle? The throw out bearing makes a TON of noise in this car...but the noise goes away when you press the clutch pedal. This rattle is also normal.

Granted, lots of things can rattle lol. So your rattle could be different than another persons rattle...gosh these threads about "weird sounds" are damn near impossible to describe haha.

If its the rattle I'm thinking off, its completely normal. When sitting at a stop light, I can hear an audible rattle from the engine/tranny area. When I push in on the clutch, the rattle goes away.

If this is what you experience, its just the loud ass throw out bearing of the clutch, and its fine-just loud.

I had my start with computers around 1982 as well, but I was in 7th grade. It was a Radio Shack Model I. I think it had 4 KB of RAM, had a B&W monitor, and also used a cassette recorder for storage. For my end of the year project, I had coded a picture of a knight standing in front of a dragon, and the knight moved his sword back and forth. It was tedious work, as you basically had to draw out your design on special graph paper that had every (rectangular) pixel that the screen could display (all 128x48 of them!), then code which ones to turn on and off. Thankfully, my teacher saw it the day before the final presentation, because someone moved the huge power brick next to the tape recorder and erased my project from the cassette.

That's awesome! You've gotta be the most computer-active elderly person ever!
I do tech support for Internet and most people barely in their 50's seriously struggle with computers. Most of them have trouble just logging into their email everyday. Lol.
The fact that you're my grandparents age, drive a bad ass car, AND know how to use a computer makes you a hell of a guy. When I'm your age I hope I'm able to do half the things you can do now.

Wasn't that the one where the unit itself was $100 but the RAM expansion module to make it do anything useful was like $300 extra?

Well, yes. it had only 2K of RAM ...... but you could add a module of 16K RAM for another $49.95. However, times were tough, and I couldn't afford the other 50 bucks.

Besides, 2K of RAM was plenty ...... although, another 16K would make it "blazing fast" ......

After all, my desktop here only has 6 RAMs ...... oh, wait one, ..... that's 6 GB .....

Yeah, I know these cars make a lot of 'strange noises' that are hard to source lol. I'm only going by my experience with it. It was the exact same sound that I was hearing before.

My throwout bearing never rattles at all on this car. Only time I heard a chatter when I pressed in my clutch was when I had an HKS twin carbon disc clutch on my MR2. The pilot bearing and throwout bearing are two different things, and I'm referring to the pilot bearing since that's what ended up going out on my car.

I described the hiss sound to my mechanic friend, and after he listened to it while riding in my car he guessed correctly that my pilot bearing was probably the cause (he's worked on a lot of Subarus). A couple of months later, the intermittent hissing turned into a clatter so I took it in to the dealership where they pulled it apart, found my pilot bearing was shot, replaced it under warranty and I went ahead and replaced the clutch disk, and resurfaced the flywheel since the transmission was already out anyway.

first mainframe computer I worked on was one of these.

They had Punched Paper Tape readers to input code into the main memory
Magnetic core store each BIT of memory consisted of a ferrite bead with a read write and erase wire hand threaded through it.

The Hard drive was 1 metre in diameter had 200 fixed heads and a couple of air compressors to fly the heads off the disk. Head crashes when compressors failed were spectacular.

The communications multiplexer was programmed with cards of diodes which you had to solder/unsolder to change the instructions to the "processor"
