Ball bearings in a washing machine sounds to me like an exhaust heat shield rattling.

If your in second gear and anywhere lower than 3mph in gear it will rattle. If your on third gear anything lower than 14mph and in gear it will rattle.

The gravity of the situation might make it a little messy.

Pretty sure it's the clutch springs lol, most manual cars I've seen do it. Engines don't have to be over 2000rpm, there are turbo cars these days that get on the boost below 1500rpm, and cruise at 1000.

That said, if you insist on rolling through stop signs like that, you might want to try...you know, that next gear down?

But if I go into 1st gear i'll basically have to stop. I'll lose that .00001 second that I would've saved by staying in 2nd gear.

Clutch control. If you are going to labor the engine, slip the clutch. In 1st gear when moving slowly, slip the clutch slightly so that it still pulls, but if you blip the throttle the revs rise on the clutch slip. This prevents the lurching as there isn't enough grip on the clutch to lurch the weight of the car. If you are in 2nd and a little slow, but don't think it's worth going to 1st, then just slip the clutch in 2nd and rev it a little, wait for it to accelerate a little, then engage the clutch fully.

And... there is NOTHING wrong with going from 2nd to 1st while rolling. You just have to be good on the clutch and/or rev match.

You should trade the car now and buy that Buick you've been eyeing.

Trade it in for an automatic because you obviously don't know how to drive a standard.
A car with as little torque as this one is not designed to be driven below 2k RPM.

I am proud to say I have never driven an automatic in my life. (If you exclude a CVT transmission motorbike).
