Reality seems that they will be just sourcing existing auto and manual transmissions, which is more boring to talk about than fantasy transaxles. Also my original point was kind of that Toyota Canada was promoting this thing with the auto which is counter-intuitive to people expecting this to be an enthusiast's car. |

I think they already have the enthusiast market hooked, now they need to get Susie Q in one as well, just so they can make more moeny.

Adds $780 to the price and very negligible weight. With some development for improved upshift times, launch control and a full auto mode, I think it could be perfect. They can call it SMT-II ![]() I still would like my clutch pedal please. |

That is one car that a): I don't know very much about and b the little I think I do know mystifies me (1ZZFE instead of 2ZZGE in a sportscar? Didn't understand back then, but think I do now.)

which "sports" car are you referring to that used the 1ZZ-FE? The latest gen Celica in any trim except GT-S? At the time there were pro's to both engines, but the 1ZZ was easier to modify. Why not slap a turbo on it? It was possible, unlike the 2ZZ which had a few obstacles to overcome before hand.

Weird how they chose the 1ZZ but also offered an auto-manual. |

They didn't use the 2zz because of the lift characteristics. Guessing the lawyers were afraid some chick would have a cam phase over mid corner, spin out, crash into a tree backwards and sue Toyota (or their family sue Toyota in the worst of cases) ***rolls eyes***
Let it be said, the MR-S with a 2ZZ swap is a total beast. Probably would have sold enough to till be in production today (or at least it's successor) me thinks. |

Of course off-the-shelf transmissions aren't as fun to talk about, but that doesn't mean that having a widely-used transmission is a bad thing. As I said before, easier to beef up for those looking for lots of power. Plus, if's not going to be the quickest car on the road anyway - why not have a traditional transmission and more fun? |

That explains a lot of my limited knowledge :\
Why they don't bring certain cars to the Canadian market is beyond me, I guess we just aren't worthy? |

NOT putting the 2ZZ in the MR-S was a huge mistake on Toyota's part. Look at what Spirits was able to do with their MR-S donning a 2ZZ. That thing was seriously fast and handled like it was on rails. |
