I would take care of the car myself with a $12 remote control car and a pile of oil/gasoline soaked shop rags.....

My FRS has been hit too, so I get that it sucks, but the rear clip of this car is extremely simple when it comes to collision repairs. List price on the quarter panel is approx $630. The most labor intensive part of the repair is replacing that quarter panel, and that shouldn't take more than 20 hours. Your bumper may be salvaged, if not list is approx $320. Your trunk will be salvaged, and if your taillight needs replacing, that's around $270. Add suspension and drivetrain components and damaged wheel/tire (which are all relatively inexpensive) plus around $1-1.5k miscellaneous parts, plus frame and paint labor. It's not as bad as you think.
Whole steering column had to be replaced too.. wasn't just body work

Car was parked and it got hit by a drunk driver going 45 miles per hour. Don't think you guys understand quite the full extent of the damage..

Even the floor in the back seat had to be replaced

I understand the damage. And the extent of your frustration. If it isn't totaled due to your state laws that is unfortunate. I was lucky, I didn't die and it was an easy total loss. (also I did that myself at 45mph) You have your hands full, and it's not fair and your car has been down a really long time.
You said you were seeking legal action. That is your best bet at this point.

Statistically, that statement couldn't be more wrong. I'm a numbers guy so I'll break it down for you..

Car already had $13K worth of damage assessed.

Lets say value is $20K.. 80% of that is $16K.

So that car would need to achieve $16K in damage to get totalled

It's at $13, which is a difference of $3K.

Nowhere near? We're talking about $3K here..

they probably sectioned a floor piece and replaced the steering rack not the column, there is no way it needed a column or a floor you don't replace floors you can do sections but not floors.

Steering wheel spun freely after the impact - definitely needed a steering column.

I have no idea why you keep trying to question the facts here. Would be awesome if you went away.

You guys say the car was nowhere close to totalled.. Then I show you the math that shows it was about $3K away from being totaled.

Hence, the assertion that it was nowhere being close to totalled was totally wrong.. Since $3K isn't that much.

Then you get mad. Alright, lol.

only one mad here is you bro.

Why don't you hire a private adjuster to appraise the damage and dispute the total loss?
It's an option for me with my insurance. Read through your declaration page and see if you have that right.

Trust me, I'm not mad at all. Far from it lol.

Just if someone says an idiot statement, I'm the type that isn't afraid to call them out on it (and back up my argument with hard data).

i wrote an estimate and it didn't total i have tried to give him advice and he needs to know hes getting his car back but he gets all angry, i think the shop is telling him things that are very far from the truth to cover themselves. I have been in the business for 17 years and hes getting that car back all day long even if it ends up going over the threshold because it was started and there isn't anything he can do because he picked his own shop.
