Car has been in the shop for 73 days..

So this happened... http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59631

Fast forward to today... 73 days later.. my car is still in the body shop and they keep telling me conflicting information.

i.e. for weeks, they keep saying "it will be done this week".. Then it turns out to be totally wrong.

What can I do at this point?

I try to be a calm and collected type of guy, but this situation is testing my patience to say the least.

You should be in constant contact with the insurance company if you aren't already. I would push for them to total the car. That was some pretty extensive damage.

Tried that.. And they said they won't total it unless it achieves 16K of damage.. Currently at $13K. PA threshold is ~80%

The labor hours alone should have totaled this car. Sometimes the insurance company will allow 70-75% depending on who you have.

Now the drunk guys insurance company is trying to get me to pay out of pocket for my car rental.. FML.

Bring the guys at the shop a couple of 6 packs and persuade them to "find" another 3k in damage so it will be totaled.

Let your insurance handle that.

I read your other post and wanted to chime in with my recent experience.

I had the same type of damage from someone running a red light. I was also quoted 13k in repairs. It took about a month before they finished my car. 73 days seems a bit much.

As far as the actual repairs go. I truly believed that the car would never be the same after a collision. I know the body shop I went to ran into a few issues which had me even more concerned. In the end, it's like the accident never happened. All the lines were spot on. Inside of the trunk looks great. Alignment is on point. Color is perfect. They showed me pictures of the entire process. Technology has come a long way!

I asked if the car was going to have a salvaged title. I was informed that salvaged title is if the car was totaled but I decided to keep it and pay for the repairs myself. Also, I do have a file i keep for all maintenance and repairs made to my car. If I plan to sell in the future, I can show the care I have given my car.

Anyway, here was my car after the accident...

And here she is today... (sorry, my finger got in the way)

Either way 73 days is a long time. I hope that when you do get your car back you are satisfied with the results.

you can suck it up like i said before the car isn't totaled and pa is not a percentage state, did you pick the shop or go to the insurance companies preferred shop. If i remember correctly you didn't go through their program so you may get stuck with the rental, policy limits are 30 days then the shop has to pay or you do. Have you gone to the shop and actually looked at where the car is in progress? that should be the next step.

Is this body shop highly rated?

So you're telling me that the drunk guy who is completely at fault, who should be in prison, who should have their license revoked, who should be shot dead from drinking and driving, is telling you to pay out of pocket because it was HIS fault that you're out of a car?

I don't see how this makes any logical sense at all.

1. drunk guy hits my car while i'm sleeping
2. drunk guy's insurance pays for my rental car
3. drunk guy's insurance wants to "cut off" my rental car because i've had it for like ~45 days or so
