6 speed

I drive my 6 speed manual with the sport button on all the time.
Without it, I find the traction control too interfering.
I wish there was a setting to allow even more slip before the traction control braking kicks in.

If it's raining hard I might leave the sport button off. (full traction control).

So for me, Not useless.

"Control characteristics such as the Vehicle stability control (VSC) and TRAC are adjusted to afford maneuverability closer to what a driver may have imagined"

Yes. By far, the dumbest thing I have ever read. I "imagined" the car would take off and fly, but it didn't. I want my money back!

How does one activate inspection mode on the manual trans FRS?
Is this the "Pedal Dance" I've heard of?

thanks

Yep, that's the pedal dance.

Here's an interesting tidbit: The pedal dance (diagnostic mode) isn't limited to the FRS/BRZ, it also works on (of all things) a Yaris. So I'm guessing all Toyotas can be "pedal danced." It's amusing to see a Yaris go balls-to-the-wall with the two yellow lights on the dash. LOL

On my at, it seems like higher auto rpm range, better throttle input, and a slightly different exhaust note. Us in the auto have BOTH a sport and a vsc sport button. Both can be used at the same time.

If you are say, traveling 70mph in 6th(manual mode on at). Say you want to downshift to the lowest gear possible(from my own experience at 70 it's about 4th gear). So you start flapping the paddles and then OH NO I hit it 3 times instead of 2". The car will audibly beep at you and stay in 4th. To say "hey bozo, if I go to 3rd your gonna blow me up so I'm staying in 4th whether you like it or not".

Another thing, if your coming to a stop the car will automatically downshift for you at minimum rpms to keep from stalling(in either mode).

From what I've seen driving mine in sport mode, the car doesn't like to shift before 3k rpm at any point, and will hold a gear much longer with even a little more throttle. I like the sport mode, although I will say it's pretty useless on roads with speed limits of 35 or less. No matter how slow you drive it refuses to shift up until you hit 3k rpm, so if you can't get above 37 (where it hits 3k in third I believe) because of traffic it won't shift and you'll be wasting gas until you manage to go over 37, or hit the paddle shifter.

Anywhere else though it's a pretty nice little feature. As far as the VSC sport versus sport mode, the article seems to be just talking about sport mode. But some cars combine traction control differences with transmission differences so it's hard to know exactly which one to talk about here.
