Got this mirrors too recently with turn signals added. But I didn't buy it cause of the blind spot you speak of. I've been driving my brz for nearly two years and never realized about that blind spot. lol

You really need two mirror settings. Out wide for highway driving so you can see what's going on in the lanes next to you, and closer in where you can see the side of your car for backing up and parallel parking. I'm hoping the Rexspeeds will allow good rearward vision for both of these needs.

How many of you don't do a head check as well? Do I need to add the FR-S/BRZ to the list of cars to stay far a way from when riding?

Head check is difficult due to the big blind spot obscured by pillars.

Glad someone had some sense! That's where these mirrors came in handy for me. Wider view that avoided the blind spot and still had some of the car showing to line up. Gotta see what you're lining up against the curb/parking lines!

The blind spot on the driver side isn't at all hidden by the B pillar unless your seat is all the way back and leaning pretty heavy. If you're a normal size and sitting like a normal person, the blind spot is perfectly visible if you put your chin to your shoulder. The passenger side requires leaning forward a little bit to see the blind spot.

The problem most people have is they are used to looking for their blind spot behind the B pillar (in most sedans). In the twins with the long window that goes further back, you just need to look over.

TL;DR

Do your head checks people

Your body size and seat position do affect your ability to look backward effectively. I'm 6'2" with long legs and need to have the seat all the way back. If I turn my head like I do in my other cars all I see is the pillar in that critical spot. I'm planning to get the Rexspeed mirrors to increase my safety. Right now the only way to look back is to lean my upper body way forward and then take a quick look.

I'm not arguing that the curved mirrors don't help, I plan on getting some myself. I'm making a point that the shoulder check is important regardless of what mirrors you have. People seem to think they can install these and never check their blind spots again.

I didn't change my driving techniques with these mirrors.. I still turn my head before I move.. Been driving "difficult to see out of" sports cars for decades.
This one has one of the worst blind spots drivers side I ever encountered.
Now I have a better view and it made a nice difference, OEM fit, for not a lot of money..and the polarization helps with glare.. It's not radically different.. Enough to correct the blind spot for me at least... As usual, YMMV.

I'm around 6' and my seat is quite back but not too far back. The other slight problems I have are :
- I like to have my arms not too stretched out when steering, but if I adjust the seat closer, it doesn't feel comfortable on pedal as I have quite long legs.
- since I'm relatively tall, my head is higher and closer to upper end of windscreen so sometimes it's hard to see traffic light on top of your car unless you lower your head a bit.
- getting in and out of the car while trying not to kick the panel to prevent making the car dirty is a bitch.

Having said that, I love this car.
