go for it. you're safe!
Going to reset mine and do this now. Then i got to move brackets, add hub, relocate GPS/Wi-Fi. Thinking of putting modules where stock GPS goes...right above gauge cluster. Maybe I can get better Wi-Fi receptionthat way

I can't imagine any scenario shy of installing the wifi adapter in a lead box that would cause wifi reception issues in a car of our size. What kind of reception issues are you experiencing?

Live in apartment so no access to Wi-Fi at home. I setup another AP near the front of my office so I could get some Wi-Fi at work. I can stream using Wi-Fi tethering but rather not use it for downloads, etc..currently outside Starbucks rooting. Should I wait after entering terminal command to reboot? Very slow for last five minutes but don't want to interrupt if it's doing something.....

Wooohooo. Just rooted! New dongle on the way. Shame about partition size. Have to delete apk every few installs. Custom recovery would be icing on the cake. I saw in that post on xda other firmware....compatible?

Check briefly but not able to read cpu speeds. Overclock and performance setting in kernel would rock

Have you guys that rooted been able to do any of the things you wanted to do? Like change the default applications that open from the physical buttons or the home screen launcher? I would be interested in knowing how difficult that kind of stuff is. My only Android experience is this head unit and the stock Nexus 7 I'm typing this post on.

I haven't yet. Got put back some. I reset unit due to issues. GPS button goes to Google maps via regular setting in menus. Downloaded offline map of my area.
I plan to download some sort of button mapping app. I'll probably use Titanium backup to freeze the launcher that runs on top of stock launcher and then install Apex launcher.
I'd like to also get a Recent Apps button.
I use LMT on my phone and tablet so maybe I'll do that.

Just got everything patched up, drive home, parked, came back out, and I got no sound. Tried rebooting a couple times, killing all apps, tried radio, Bluetooth, sdcard, USB. Any ideas? Couldn't imagine apparent harness would come loose while parked....

Update: did more troubleshooting and now radio it's unresponsive. Tried reset button and pulling battery. Just boots but controls do nothing. Prior to troubleshooting forgot to mention Wi-Fi would not come on.

Ok, so it looks like the OBDlink sx USB cable does work on torque too, at least it did last night.

I'd highly recommend a USB cable over the bluetooth one. Refresh rates are MUCH faster, meaning less lag on the display.

The install was actually pretty easy. After watching someone do it on youtube it took me like 15 minutes to disassemble everything.

The wiring is a different story haha. Some of the wires on mine were actually mislabeled/miscolored so I had to go by the diagram on the top of the head unit.
Then after everything was put back in place.... The sound only came out of one speaker, took me a while to realize it was something as simple as the the balance needs to be slightly right and down. I guess it's because I have the harness that allows me to use the 8 speakers and amplifier in the car.

Still not sure exactly about the backup camera, I assume its this last unplugged wire that I will have to cut into and add an RCA connector.
