I was really excited about this but the posts are rubbing me the wrong way.

Does anyone have regrets after buying it?

I just want good nav, capacitive touch and rca outs

About to pull the trigger on my order. Is this unit worth the extra $ over the ones on ebay that are android 4.X?

I only tried it with Torque but it paired right up with no issue in android and communicated just fine with Torque.

I'd say its very good, but not great. I'm having some issues - volume knob is wonky, no AM reception at all, Pandora keeps crashing, restarting when I turn the car on. The interface is also good not great, and there are extra clicks to get the apps you want to run on it.

Right now I'd say its a 6/10. With root its a 9/10. The stock BRZ Jujitsu 10 would be a 3/10.

Thanks Millhouse, and you are running it with the CaFi unit in this thread, correct?

You really think the unit goes from a 6/10 to 9/10 with root. Can you please elaborate. I assume you rooted yours? If so, can you point me to the files?

How long does it take to boot. Does root make a difference in boot time?

And where in NJ are you?

No root is available yet unfortunately. I am running the Ca-Fi HU. Root would be nice for several reasons, but mainly to change the interface. The launcher that comes up automatically can't be modified, so the stock audio player is the only choice for music. To use Poweramp you need to go into a sub menu and then open Poweramp. The stock unit also treats the USB and Simcard as separate storage, so you need to open two different apps to listen to music stored on each. Poweramp treats the cards as one storage device.

You also can't add or remove apps from the launcher.

Root may allow additional Bluetooth profiles. You are limited to phones and obd devices. I have a Passport Max Radar Detector that can communicate with an app similar to Waze using Bluetooth, but because the HU can't connect to it, I have to run it off my phone. I also have an external GPS receiver that has a much higher resolution which is great for the track. I can't connect the HU to that and use that antenna instead of the hardwired one.

I'm also having the problem with the radio where it switches stations (FM) randomly.

None of these are huge issues (though if I listened to FM that would be) just minor headaches - first world problems to be sure.

Booting is fast - probably under 30 seconds. Rooting won't change that. If my unit would stop rebooting every time I turned on the car that would be nice but I think I installed an app that is crashing and causing that, so I won't blame the unit for that. Root might help that.

And I'm I'm Union County NJ

So I did some more testing with DashCommand and OBDII adapters this morning.

It turns out that with a USB connected [ame="http://www.amazon.com/ScanTool-425801-Interface-Diagnostic-Software/dp/B005ZWM0R4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1399731797&sr=8-1&keywords=obdlink+sx"]ScanTool OBDLink SX OBDII adapter[/ame], DashCommand works great.

The only drawback is that for some reason Torque isn't working with the wired adapter. This isn't a big deal for me as I prefer DashCommand (and hope to snag a video showing some of the functionality and user interface today). For those that plan on switching back and forth, you can likely use an OBD2 splitter, one with the BT adapter, one with the wired adapter.

ROOT!

Hey guys, first i just wanted to say thank you for getting me interested in this unit. It has been awesome. I actually bought the unit for my Kia Optima but we still have the same head unit so thought i would contribute here.

There is root available. I rooted mine a few days ago and everything is still working perfectly.

I just followed the instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...72&postcount=1

BUT I had to use the root app someone created here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...postcount=2039
The interface will seems extremely slow while doing the root process but dont worry it will go back to normal after the last step of deleting the local.prop.

I also noticed that they used a cut down version of Viper4android for the android equalizer on the unit. I thought what if I could get the full version working. Well it works! and it sounds amazing now.

A word of warning though, I'm not sure if the old equalizer app will work anymore after installing the new driver. It didn't seem to work for me. I didn't try uninstalling the new Viper driver though so maybe that would fix it.

Quote:
1. Download the latest Viper4android:
http://vipersaudio.com/blog/?page_id=48
2. Download an app like root explorer.
3. Go to the System apps folder: /System/App.
4. Remove the stock android equalizer (Has a "V" icon). I moved it to my sdcard in case it didn't work.
5. Move the new Viper4Android app into the /System/App folder.
6. Reboot the unit
7. Load up Viper4Android and install the driver, then reboot again.
8. Success!
I also enabled the expert UI on Viper and locked it to always use the headphones settings since it has everything in there.

I'll post what my settings are for Viper4Android later but it probably wont sound the same for you since I have the 8 speaker Infinity sound system on my Optima.

Goodluck!

Just tested, bingo! Thanks a ton for this! Have you had any luck adding other bluetooth profiles or using different radio apps?
