So what was the cause for the recommendation to go back to OEM injectors? Is there possibly something still wrong with his motor?

He told me he hadn't been able to get the larger injectors to start perfectly (but wasn't bad), so it wouldn't ever be as smooth as stock for starting/idling (until it switches to DI). And he said it wouldn't be a problem making that power on the stock injectors, given what they've seen in the past on the stock motor.

Having not been at the final tuning session my best guess is that the lower compression brought the power numbers down. As far as fueling, I do not know as I have no data.

On the health of the motor, that too I can not say for certain as all we did was replace the gaskets and reset lash. We did not break open the block or send the head out for machining.

On the starting/idle issues, Bill has now worked that out. It was an issue that arrose recently as EcuTeK changed the way the VE tables work within the tunes. After the software change Bill had to go back and make many changes to his SD tunes (that already had several hundred hours of development time invested in them).

Ah, that's good to know. I definitely love the drivability of his tune. This is honestly the first tune I've had for the car that I'd want to DD. There's very few spots where it's not smooth.

Hi,

Thank you for stating this. From the multiple conversations we had this was your number one priority above all else (drivable and smooth), so that was my suggestion for going back to stock injectors, as this would make it start and drive like a normal vehicle even on 15 PSI of boost.

You also stated you only wanted to run waste-gate pressure which is what we set your vehicle too. So the power we able to get out of it was what we achieved on pure California 91 octane.

Now as far as power, I think people are missing that this vehicles has an extremely low compression engine, 9:1 versus stock. This is going to have a LARGE impact on the overall power output. To give you an example we tuned a MA Performance turbo kit with a similar turbo, stock compression, stock injectors, California 91 octane and made 270 on a Mustang dyno. I believe if we had standard compression and ran 15 PSI on this setup we would be around 300+ on a Mustang dyno. Compression has a big impact on power.

As for stock injectors, we have implemented a technique with EcuTeK RaceROM that allows us to run basically 100% DI and 100% PI, in turn this allows us push the power further on stock injectors. We have found the limit to be about 15 PSI on pump fuel and 11 PSI on E85. Though I was calculating more that seems to be it. Just looking for ways to keep the price down on builds for customers.

Cheers,
William Knose

Delicious Tuning.
Drivability was definitely #1 for me, and I appreciate your focus on that.

We discussed what power my car made on the old smaller turbo setup - 353whp on a dynojet with stock OP and FP. Then we decided that at 15psi with a larger turbo, and replacing the OP+FP, we'd easily be able to hit 400whp. I never imagined the car would make less power at the same boost level

A small bit to mention here and forgive me if I am wrong...but Canadian gas is in no way comparable to California gas, even at the same octane level. What is it up there, 91 or 93? Our 91 here in CA does not perform the same as a 91 in any other state. It's much worse here. Food for thought.

Sincerely,

Zach
