Like he said, reasons above. And it's a common misconception that rooting makes it less stable, it just gives you more access to do things that may or may not make it less stable, just rooting it changes nothing about the stability.

He's probably thinking about custom ROMs, which can be buggy and unstable.

yeah, no need for custom roms or anything. I mainly want the ability to choose my own launcher and addition of the full bluetooth stack. The full bluetooth stack would allow things like:
  • Bluetooth data tethering (as opposed to wifi)
  • High refresh rate (10hz) GPS sensors for datalogging
  • Pairing with my radar detector's smartcord so that i can use Escort Live (skip to 1:34 if the link doesn't take you there [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7PJPshCixU#t=94"]Escort Live Radar Detector Interface - YouTube[/ame] )

One other benefit would be the ability to reprogram the Radio and GPS buttons. If it works like i think it does, it should be pretty simple. From what I can tell, the GPS button launches the "carnavi" app which is just a symbolic link to your default GPS app. My assumption is that the radio button works the same way. In theory, you would be able to have the radio and GPS button launch whatever app you desire (poweramp, torque, tunein, etc).

Has anyone found a 30-pin dock connector to lightning adapter that does audio and isn't Apple's $30 one? I found one that claimed to do audio for $7 and I guess I should've known better, because it didn't.

OK, so I confess to being a moron. I have the Ca-Fi and am trying to install it, but I'm having a few issues. Can anyone provide any advice? @SHIFTER or @SVXdc maybe?

Here are the basics.

I have the BRZ OEM Audio + Reference 400 system with an OEM headunit (Fujitsu 10). I am not getting audio with the Ca-Fi, I think because its not getting power, but I'll let someone smarter than me take a guess.

I connected two connections from the BRZ to the umbilical that came with the Ca-Fi. (Technically, I connected the two connections from my OEM Audio Plus system). The ones in red below.

But after I do this, I still have connectors that aren't connected.

On the OEM unit, they'd connect here

It may not matter, but since I am not getting audio, I'm pretty sure it does. But its probably because I don't have the wire coming from the Ca-Fi labelled "Amp On" connected. Does anyone know where I should connect this? Using this link, I think it should connect to the pink wire in the OEM harness, but I'm not certain.

Finally, there is a blue wire coming off the power antennae adapter. Does anyone know where that goes?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Bingo. I too have the OEM Audio+ unit.

Connect the "amp on" wire to any wire that gets power while the car is in accessory mode, (the blue antenna wire should actually work).

You'll also need to get an adapter to allow the ca-fi to connect to the factory antenna harness. That adapter will have a wire coming off of it, you'll want to wire that to the blue antenna wire as well.

Thanks - I have that already and wasn't sure where to connect that either. I'll give it another shot.

Thanks - this did it.

Any chance you have a rear camera? That's the only thing I don't have working.

if you had a rear camera hooked up to the stock stereo you will need to unpin it and rewire it as a composite plug and plug it into the rca in the back of the unit.

see the previous pages for which rca input is for the camera.

I wish they would have a Subaru version for WRX! The 2015 wrx uses the same headunit as the brz (with different wiring harness) so I guess the 7" universal would work, but I hate to go splicing into wires. Awesome write up!
