Talking Best wax for a black car

well since it's spring time i've been thinking about waxing my car. I've been looking into the Turtle Wax Black Box kit since the reviews seem pretty good, however i'm still open to suggestions. Also, I've been seeing a lot of you using clay bar on your car before waxing and was wondering if that would make the wax adhere a little better to the paint. So basically, what's your suggestions on how to get the paint back to that showroom shine...

As I have always heard there is no"best" wax. There is only what you like the look of and what protects best. Wax is merely a sacrificial barrier to protect the clear coat from damage, plus it makes the metallic flake pop/looks shiny.

So a clay bar is a good idea if you are parked outdoors frequently, as the clay will remove embedded contamination caused by environmental fallout, rail dust etc. It will leave the paint feeling great and also allow the product to adhere better got to start with a clean base. A good way to tell if you need to clay is rub the paint when clean, does it feel rough or smooth? If you want you can take a thin sandwich baggy for that same process as it lets you feel the paint better. Now with the positive a clay bar brings, there can be some possible negative. Most detailers will advice that clay can possibly leave some form of marring, so its usually best followed by a machine polish. Just so you know the facts so to speak. I have never noticed bad marring but again its a black car so they show everything. If you clay clean the car thoroughly before hand and then use a liberal amount of lubricant generally included in clay kits.

On to what I like to use for wax/sealant. For a car that is outdoors often or a daily driver, I would highly suggest a synthetic paint sealant. They offer long lasting protection and have gotten so good they look near a wax "look" I personally like Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0. You can find it on Auto Geek among many other locations online. Its on sale for $32.00 and since it last for about 5-6 months it will go a long way. I would also highly recommend to you Wolfgang paintwork polish enhancer, its a product that removes old wax and preps the paint for the products to apply to, you would use that prior to a sealant or wax.

Now carnauba based waxes are great for looks a nice warm look, but they generally don't last very long at all, thus potentially limiting their protection. So you would need to reapply monthly. I like Pinnacle Souveran paste wax also from Auto Geek. Now its a not cheap being a boutique wax at $95.00 per tub. However it last literally for years and the looks are fantastic. Only lasts about 1 month though.

I would recommend the Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant to you as I know not all people would want to spend 100 for wax, and to be honest the Wolfgang last MUCH longer and looks fantastic. Looks like a hard candy shell almost very nice. Di I mention that the application is super easy with a fresh foam applicator pad? Its so simple to use, apply nice thin coat then let dry for about 30-45 minutes and wipe off. I would advise you to not get the car wet for at least 12 hours as it needs to cure. I say give it a try, I think you will be very impressed and see why I like it so very much. I will simply say there is nothing wrong with turtle wax at all. However if you want to protect, want that great fresh waxed look after a wash, and up to 6 months of protection give the Wolfgang products a try. Hope it works out for you, ask any questions man I am glad to help.

Best wax for a black car

Like you say, Turtle wax black box is very good, try it and thrust me it's insane to shine the black color. This wax remove all swirl marks and light scratches you will have.

But I will recommends to use gloves otherwise you will have the hands tinted black for a week .

^While his post is much more informative, I came here to say that there is no "best" wax. I like Meguiar's line of products. For my car I used their clay bar kit and the Deep Crystal Carnauba wax. Its all a matter of preference.

I would recommend taking steps to protect the paint as well. I got my car on March 10th and I already have a few chips in the paint. I don't tailgate or follow close, the roads here are just bad and this paint is thin.

Remember #1. You are waxing the clear coat on your car not the black paint unless you have a single stage paint. #2. When claying your car first check to see if the paint condition requires claying. The baggie test works well for this. #3. A carnuba wax will not remove swirls or scratches but may hide or cover them. Polishing defects is the only way to remove them .

I had good results with mothers 3step system. I use the clay bar with showtime detailer before the 3 step.
Here's a pic after I waxed my car:
