I got that everyday for the lifetime of my Unichip. I found out the issue was my Injen cold air intake. After switching back to stock, I haven't had any issues.

p0172 has been etched into my mind

Yea I think it's the intake too.I talked to unichip and they said to call injen, injen said they had a defective tube called the "gen 1 " so I'm going back to stock temporarily to see if it goes away. Any good cai that won't give the same problems.. it's been driving me crazy I would have never thought a bad intake tube... p0172 will probably never get out of my head lol

No joke haha. P0172 has turned me off from ever trying cold air intakes again.

Yes, see here: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=64286

Clean your MAF sensor, then reset the code. That fixes it for a few weeks. I'm still experimenting to determine the exact cause, but I don't see where the Unichip is at fault. I had it for 9 or 10 months, running the same map continuously, before this problem started. Failed MAF sensor, perhaps due to K&N and perhaps not, is my best guess at this time.

Totally off topic but is the unichip worth it? Did yall see a difference in power, how it felt or sounded? I have a Injen intake cusco throttle body borla uel header perrin over perrin midpipe with high flow cat borla cat back.

Yes, in my opinion it is. The car has noticeably more pick up, and the torque dip is much less pronounced. I'm sure a full tune would be even better, but with a totally new motor, I was unwilling to jeopardize my warranty. Unichip was the best compromise, and I'd certainly do it again.

Sounds like a problem with intake oil, not unichip. I ran unichip for 1 year without any issues.

I was having an assortment of CELs with my Unichip and rough idle/running and sometimes it would even stall. I have a unichip tuning license because I'm using it as part of my electric supercharger design. Reading through some of the tuning documentation It suggested if your having random CELs and other issues the first thing to do its try running a dedicated ground/12V to power the unichip. I reengineered the harness to do this, and since then it's running perfectly.

Can you elaborate on this? Maybe even a quick little DIY for a noob like me.

I have 0 mods. I have the Unichip on the FR-S and the check engine light, traction control light & VSC mode light will turn on at some point. Also my cruise control will not work when the check engine light is on as well. If I do not disconnect the battery and reconnect it eventually there will be an idle issue that cause the FR-S to stall when at a red light and an impact to accelerating while driving or trying to go from a dead stop.

When I remove the Unichip the FR-S runs fine w/ no issues. I put the Unichip back on the FR-S and the problem returns.

I have tried to update the Unichip per the file online and also tried the following Maps but the problem returns when the Unichip is on the FR-S:
All Drop-in Filters +((Fuel ~, Timing ~))
Stock +((Fuel ~, Timing ~))
All Drop In Filters + ((Fuel +, Timing +))
Stock + ((Fuel +, Timing +))
All Drop In Filters + ((Fuel -, TIming-))
Stock + ((Fuel -, TIming-))
Valet 3500

I have reached out to Unichip for help, but if someone has any suggestions please let me know as I notice a difference in performance and would like the Unichip back on the FR-S ASAP.

I have been having the same issue every once ina while when it is very hot and very humid outside.. My car has the latest oem flash, which was supposed to fix the idle dip issue.

Got a p0172 and p1170 yesterday.
