Ok so I mounted the pulleys. Here's the deal with the forester oil cooler. It fits. Now it's very tight. We're talking 3-4mm tight, but it fits. The nice thing is that the part that is too close for comfort can be ground off with a dremel. The pictures don't do it justice.

The pictures make the bolt look closer than it appears in person.

I will run this setup and have no fear of that nut ever contacting that part of the cooler. If it does I have bigger problems.

So there you go. The forester oil cool will "fit" depending on how you view this gap.

Please note you CANNOT run the hardline from the forester oil cooler. I have standard coolant hoses running down to a T. The hard line goes in the same place as the drivers side mounting bracket. That's what uses those two holes that the bracket utilizes that are magically unused.

This oil cooler setup is about $250 from subaru and paired with an upgraded radiator should perform just fine on the track.

Cool I'll probably put in my order soon for the OEM Forester oil cooler. I'm not looking forward to the install though since I'm going to have to remove the Kraftwerks S/C plate to make it fit I believe. I'm not 100% sold on whether or not an upgraded radiator would have that big of an effect on the overall cooling though. Seems like there just isn't enough surface area between the coolant and oil to be as effective as all those traditional oil coolers - even with a bigger radiator. My simple minded thought process goes... if it is good enough for a ~300 hp WRX/STI/ForesterXT, this should be good enough for my ~300hp FA20. (Hopefully with the smaller pulley going in at the same time it'd be 300++hp). (I don't track it much - more of a fun DD)

Oil coolers are one of the first upgrades done on any WRX/STI that's driven hard...

I guess I'm saying I don't really drive it all that hard. The other option (which is honestly quite likely) is to see if time will bring a thermostatic solution that will be compatible with the KW kit. If I don't drive it all that hard, not even sure if the OEM solution is all that necessary.

That's good, we still may need a couple of people to verify fitment. I look forward to seeing it all bolted up together.

Do you think the spacer is similar to the one Cusco makes?

The cusco oil cooler is just a subaru part I believe. The only difference is they used a WRX pot, and added a machined aluminum lip. It's like 4x the price too.

I'd like some clarification here. You said that was "the" point, as in there were no other reasons for not running a single belt for the entire system.

So essentially, the system was designed in anticipation of failure?

No, they also designed the system this way to not use a intake tube that had to bend around the blower and get heat soaked while doing so.

may the schwartz be with you....

No system is 100% reliable. User error, installation error, manufacturing faults etc... will happen. Engineering some contingency into the system seems... prudent, no? I mean, Titanic and all...
