My father was able to take out the strip bolt and chase the threads and have it perfect in like 30 minutes all utilizing stuff he had in the garage. $300 at repair shop...free at my parent's garage...yeah, that's a win.
Doesn't surprise me. The bleeder is not something that needs a ton of torque or is a fastener. It just needs to thread down and seal. It needs no more torque than your smallest wrench can provide. I would have whipped out my tap and dye set and had it fixed to useable in no time.

I'm going to be doing this swap as soon as my rotors come in. I ordered DBAs like you @King Tut but they have been on back order for over a month and look to stay that way for another few weeks. I'm starting to look into other options and just want to make sure I have everything correct.

I bought 2011 STI brembos, which means I could use the 04 front rotors that would already be 5x100, but need redrilled/custom drilled rear rotors because they need to be 08+.

Thanks for the clarification in advance.

If you get the DBA 4000 rear rotors for 08+ STI they're already dual drilled at the factory, so need to re-drill.

I know, thats what I have on order. But they have been on backorder for a month already and I was told it will be at least another 2 weeks. Trying to see what my other options are.

I contacted each of the vendors on NASIOC to see who had the best price on the DBA rotors and who had them in stock. There is a good chance you can find one that has them in stock.

Has anyone tried using tin snips to cut off the "lip" on the rear dust shields? Will it work? (I don't have an angle grinder at home).

Was planning to use those tin snips and then a dremel grinder to de-burr the edges. Then give it a lick of paint.

I am pretty sure I removed mine with tin snips.

Great...did the shields cut off easily with those? I've used tin snips on flat sheet metal before but never cut a dust shield....especially to get a nice radius around it.

I wouldn't say it will cut off a nice radius. It also depends on what type of tin snips you are using. They got the job done, and then I used a hammer to bend a lip into what was left so the sharp edges left from the tin snips wouldn't show. A body hammer or a cut off wheel would do a much better job, but I didn't feel like braking out my cut off wheel.
