FRS started funny

So this morning (after sitting for a day and a half) I started the car and heard it start funny. Usually it starts up and it's rumble rumble rumble.

This morning the car sounded like it skipped a beat. Like for a split second the rumble was gone and then the sound comes back.

It sounded like it had a hard time idling. Sort of like choking a motorcycle. I checked the dash no needle jumping and no CEL. It had a big gas smell outaide .

Would had gotten a sound clip but it went away after the RPM dropped.

I just started the car a few minutes ago after letting it sit for 6 hours. That sound did not return.

Should I be concerned? Anyone encounter this? Sign of DI failure?

Car is a 2013, made august 2013. Bought Dec 2013. Stock tune. Stock exhaust. Stock everything.

Reminds me of this thread:
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22351

I've gotten a hiccup a few times and a long start here or there. The two things I can think of are either turning the key too fast doesn't allow the fuel system to prime or maybe there's some flooding or an anomoly with the injectors depending on the shut down conditions.

Dealerships don't do jack shit without a CEL code and I haven't heard any grumblings of anything so I'd say your fine unless you can repeat it.

I think turning the key too fast would only be logical if I had a key to turn. Forgot to mention I have push to start. 10 Series FRS. auto.

If I'm not mistaken you can still push the button in a way to start the car before the accessory systems are given adequate time to power up.

But I don't know any better, quick googling found that you're supposed to wait for a green light but I'm sure you've come across it as well.

Like I said, dealership probably won't do anything unless you can replicate it or have an engine code. Best of luck.

When I went to demo an FR-S one time, the car was idling terribly when we turned it on like you described. I'm sure it had been sitting for a few weeks though.

Thanks! Hope it's nothing serious.

Wonder what that could be.

Same here... I've heard it about 5 times since new, had my car for about 6 months. Doesn't sound like anything abnormal.

My car has started "funny" a few times.

My OB-LINK comes up with error code P1604 - "startability". If you have a friend with an ELM327 and the torque app or a friendly dealer you could check.

There's a few threads if you search P1604 on the forum and on the net.

I think the code clears after the car starts ok a certain number of times or I just get the code cleared when I go to the dealer. Doesn't seem to be an issue.

So you actually get a CEL? I didn't get a CEL for my situation though.

I did a search and it's when people's car failed to start. My car didn't fail to start, it just idled funny like if the sound disappeared for a moment.

Normal Sound would be: _/-\_/-\_/-\_/-\_/-\_/-\_/-\_/-\_/-\_/-\_/-\

But this start up was like _/-\_/-\_____/-\____/-\_____/-\_/-\

Update 4/29/2014:

It was a nice 70 something degrees this morning, upon start up car idled fine but still had a very big gasoline smell. Usually don't have strong gasoline smell.

No, didn't get a CEL. Just an error code P1604 if looking through the diagnostics.

Sounds like a different issue though as mine is when engine turns over a bit more before starting rather than rough idle. There's a few threads on rough idle if you search that. There was even a TSB on it for the early builds - see under the BRZ ones here http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21868

I thought that TSB was for an Idle dip as if the car was about to stall? I didn't have a dip on my visual needle.
