Two options:

http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2062214

But you are going to need one rca to male headphone adapter for this. Plus you can get it right now, and return it easily if it does not work.

Reviews are great for this and it does not look like it affects sound quality.

Next up is this bad boy:

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/PAC-Ground-Isolator-3-5-Applications/dp/B001EAQTRI/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top"]Amazon.com: PAC Ground Loop Isolator for 3.5 MM Applications: Automotive[/ame]

Cheap. Good reviews, but a few people complained it reduced sound quality. Not sure if this is true.

I have that PAC piece. I didn't notice any reduced sound quality.

Not good. You have to press a button on the head unit to activate pairing EVERY time you want to use the app to control the head unit. Not exactly convenient for a Nexus install with a hidden head unit. This is true with both Sony's and JVC's offerings. If there's something else out there that doesn't have this limitation, it's news to me.

Actually the remote can do it. Hence the reason for the adruino. It's just series of key hits to make the nexus connect to the headunit.

Is this a recent improvement? When I did my tablet install back in November/December, every source I found said you had to press the button on the head unit itself for the Sony units.

Im sure on your search you found this link about a guy who installed the nexus 7 in his tacoma. He kept trying different ways of enabling the program with the remote and couldn't figure it out. Well someone else did, and to top that off he made an adruino board to hit the same series of hits, and its now all automated.

Oh, I either misread or I'm misunderstanding. I thought you guys meant you could use the Sony remote that comes with the head unit to do this.

Actually you can but it does get messy if you don't hit the right series of buttons. (It requires a down and right I believe) so you would need to be good at doing it right every time.

Pretty cool that people are figuring out ways around these limitations.

Although, it's incredibly stupid of Sony to require a physical button press for something like this in the first place.

I've got a JVC KD-X250BT head unit hidden behind my Nexus 7. I don't need to press any button to activate the pairing, I can just connect through my tablet.
Although the JVC app isn't very good, it does everything I need (change source, volume, eq)

JVC Smart Music Control
To connect to your head unit, you need to go into 'Media', then bring up the menu, click 'Connect' then select your head unit (JVC Unit).
A toast message should come up saying 'Connected to car receiver' or something. Then you can use the gestures to control your head unit.
TBH its a pretty shitty app, but at least I can control my head unit through it
