Anybody know where to get some really good headphones in the valley? I'm not talking about Beats, I'm looking for something like Panasonic X1s or Denon D600s. Maybe HE-500s for the right price.

Guitar center. I got my audio-technica's there a year ago. They are great for the money, there are better, but the money goes up exponentially.

AKG are my favorite 'commuting' headphones. I used them in NYC as my walking cans. Grado are the best money can buy in my opinion if you're looking for studio sound, but their open cell foam ear surrounds don't lend themselves well to walking around in the elements (rain, sweat, etc). I used to make a living with headphones for whatever that's worth.

If you get Bose or Beats I'll disown you.

I want tires with reasonable performance and reasonable life. I like long drives on winding roads, probably won't ever put it on a track and push it hard. Yesterdays mountain drive was perfect for me. I'll reevaluate once I wear them down.
I got Bridgestone Turanza which are also grand touring tires.

I like the AKGs enough that I installed them into my motorcycle helmet. It took some doing to get the airspace right and ear seal correct, but now I have studio headphones while I ride.

It's interesting that they put different tires on them. Even if it was destination based when they picked the tires, ours came from the same dealer, purchased within a couple weeks of each other.

We use this one ordered from Austin Canoe and Kayak, of all places...

Ram X Mount with suction cup. It's survived 4 track days without so much as a single slip.

We used to have a saying where I worked:

"No highs, no lows, must be Bose."

Of course that was quite a long time ago, perhaps they've improved in the past 10 years.

Kevin,

I went to Guitar Center and they had both brands you and @RedLeader mentioned, but I think I'll have to go with the HE-500s. $500 is steep, but I can't have something like an audiophile set of earphones, and wonder what the extra 10% sounds like.

But that's also the cost of a new OP/FP combo...
